is there some place (kindle, ibooks etc) where I can rent books for a small amount vs buying them - any apps for the ipad or the iphone?

a friend of my sister's uses a mail rental program to rent books, ala Netflix style. i don't know the company, but when i did a google search "netflix for books" several things came up.

our library rents books for electronic devices, have you checked your library?

You can check if any libraries near you offer eBooks on loan - see http://www.overdrive.com/default.asp.

My library is connected with www.overdrive.com (as mentioned above) and www.netlibrary.com. I mainly download audiobooks, but they do have eBooks too. I believe they are in the PDF format. They expire after however many days your library is setup for. (I have two different library log-ins and they have differing number of days). I downloaded the Adobe Reader in my phone.

Thanks so much for telling me about these! I found that my library has both - yay! About the pdf reader, is the experience almost as good as ibooks? And what app is it? I see 3 apps in the itunes appstore for reading pdfs. Look forward...

thanks a lot,
