I have my annual GYN appt today and will need a pap smear but though it should be gone by now I still have remnants of my period, not a lot but a little. Can I still keep my appointment or do I need to cancel. The office isn't open til my appt time so I'm wondering how to handle this - thanks ladies!

My dr's office prefers that you keep the appt.

Something similar happened to me and they were fine with that. The nurse asked me to make sure that I was at the end of my period, not the beginning, then said that was fine.

Depends on the office. This is a common question - I'd call them. Many offices say come on in.

Had the same situation recently! I was sure that they'd want me to reschedule but when I called they said it was no problem. I felt uncomfortable about it, but my OB and nurse weren't fazed at all. In hindsight I guess they are delivering babies, dealing with various feminine "issues", so AF is probably no big deal!

My office said the same thing as another poster, it's ok at the end (keep the appt), but not the beginning of AF.

I would call the office & ask.

Well, considering that new Paps are valid for 3 years and mine didn't even give me an exam, I wouldn't consider it an issue. They did send me for a mammogram, however..
