I just took my last migraine pill. They were samples from my neurologist (Treximet).
I need some back ups though, as I am about to take a trip and I want something stronger than advil.
I see that the Treximet (which actually worked for my last migraine) has naproxen. Should I get Aleve then in that case?
Exedrine Migraine?

I don't have time to get anything from the doc at this point.

My magical item with a small Coke (not diet.) Maybe it is psychological, but it is what works for me. Over time I gave reduced my caffine, this has a big (good) impact for me.

My fix-it is a Diet Coke, 2 tylenol, and 2 ibuprofen.

Thanks. I am pounding the caffeine right now. But I also need a pill to pop if I need to on my trip!
Sounds so bad, I know.
I think my pre-trip anxiety is kicking in.

Aleve (or generic naproxin) is my choice.

excedrin migraine (which is a combo of aspirin, acetometaphen, and caffeine) got rid of my bad headaches every time. however, i don't take it anymore as it makes me shaky/anxious and it upsets my tummy... i feel like i drank 5 cups of coffee after taking it.

I take 800 mg of Ibuprofen (4 pills) which is prescription strength. I never bother getting a prescription for it if that's what my doctor wants me to take; this is easier. You can take it every 8 hours.

With Tylenol, you can alternate 500 mg of that with Ibuprofen. Take the Ibuprofen, then 2 hours later take the Tylenol, etc... I keep a list going of what I took when if I'm having to do that.

We call Aleve (naproxen sodium) the magic blue pills. :rotflmao: DH swears by them for his headaches. You can take 2 of those every 12 hours.

I skip the Excedrin migraine; my stomach does not tolerate aspirin well.

Extra Strength Rum and Coke.

(Ok, it may not make your headache go away, but it'll make you feel better for sure ;) )

Spoken like a man who has a wife to take care of the kiddos when he passes out!
I'm looking for something a little less short term as far as "solutions" go.

i'm usually just too lazy to refill my prescription for ibruprofen and take the 4 advil with a coke instead, but i always have my prescription for migrainal filled.

4 ibuprofen and a cup of strong coffee with 2-3 teaspoons sugar. I normally hate coffee with sugar, but this is key to getting rid of the migraine for me. GL!

Thanks everyone. That Treximet totally knocked out my headache. It's like the pain turns into a buzzing pressure and then goes away. So I got some Aleve (same naproxen base) and then I am going to talk to my doctor about getting more of the Treximet when I have a chance after my trip. It is a new drug for me.

The Advil plus caffeine was not working for me.

The Excedrin works for me too. Just a note; there is NO DIFFERENCE between the Excedrin and the Excedrin Migraine. It's a marketing tool only. Read the ingredient list. I buy the generic Excedrin and it works excellently as long as I take it at the first sign of a headache. If I wait, then it's not nearly as effective.

We have actually found that the walmart brand of Excedrin is more effective than the name brand. And MUCH cheaper.
