The girls' dance studio is stricter with hair this year. No biggie, at least so I thought -- good to go with the ballet buns. Um, yeah, not so much. They want bangs out of the face too, which I've done in the past for performances with hairspray, bobby pins and the costume hairpieces.

However, for class, they are suggesting headbands -- the full circle fabric kind.

This is only an issue for DD#1 (6), but its for THREE dance classes, two of which are back to back and I'm not there for uniform changes (from ballet to jazz wear) nor to re-fix hair. DD#2 d/n have bangs, so I'm good to go with her. DD#1 wants to grow out her bangs but esthetically when not dancing really does NEED bangs, if you get my drift.

I can NOT get a hairband to stay in her hair. Is there a way to bobby pin one in?? Is there a particular brand that works? I tried the Goody stayput yesterday and it wasn't great (but it did last for 30 min of tap).

Any color works, but it needs to coordinate with ballet pink leotard.

They also want bun covers this year, I got her a blue crocheted one yesterday (b/c the pink at the ballet store d/n match her pink leotard).

TIA

You can make a hairband out of this (http://www.amazon.com/Mueller-Pre-Wrap-Sky-Blue/dp/B0027VTU6K).... There are lots of different colors.

It is the only thing that stays in my hair.... but my be too sloppy for dance. It is kind of foamy so it sort of sticks. I have really, really fine silky hair and have a horrible time with headbands.

Looks like this.

ETA: If you use this look for Muller brand because it is thicker than Cramer or knock-off brands and works better. Also forgot to add you just tear a piece off and tie a circle out of it the right size for DD's head.

OK, well, that's exactly the look they want (except with a bun instead of a pony tail).

:) What I usually do for size (and this might sound awful) but I tear off a piece and put it around my neck and tie if around my neck to where it is almost exactly the size of my neck and then push it up my my head where I want it. If you didn't want to do that you could just measure her neck and tie it in your hands. I then tear off the ends at the knot so I don't have tails hanging down. You can find it at Dicks, sporting goods stores, or sometimes Claire's has it!

I second the prewrap. I used it all the time while playing tennis in college.

Goody brand also makes some with grippers, but I don't know how small a head they are practical for or if they come in kids' sizes.

Honestly, I use the gripper ones myself and they are super-comfy. (I am another person who, aesthetically, needs bangs.)

As you can see, I'm mom to a DS, but I recently heard of these from a mom: http://www.hairclippy.com/girls/head-bands

She has the clippies, and not the bands, but she says the clippies don't slip. They are pricey, but may work, if nothing else!

I am not sure the prewrap would work for a little girl though. It's what the big girls use for softball but you have to be able to tie it yourself and it gets messed up easily if you have to take it on and off.
I would try something like this. http://www.womenssportslink.com/Stock-Hairbands_S152UN5.shtml
I think it might be easier than prewrap. Or just get some Goody fabric elastic headbands that go all the way around.

Yeah, I'm worried the prewrap is going to fall out or come unwrapped?? I think its a fab idea, though.

I have the Goody Stay put headbands. They don't really stay put, though. I am going to try the Scunci ones next.

It's probably worth a try at least. Maybe it will stay in. You can get the prewrap anywhere and I don't think it's expensive.

Nothing worked on my hair until my cousins showed me the pre-wrap trick and they run CC and track in college and they LOVE it.

I use the method around my neck too. If you wrap it like twice the stuff like sticks to itself especially once it gets bunched up as you pull it up to your hair. Definitely worth a try!

Bubbaray, once you find the solution, teach her how to do it, and she'll get good at doing it herself. Carpool used to drop me at ballet when I was her age and by midyear, I was better at the bun than my mom -- with old school hairpins (not Bobby pins, which IMHO are harder to use) and a hairnet too! Let her experiment a ton at home and she'll probably surprise you! :cheerleader1:

A little girl on my daughter's soccer team wears one to every practice
and game. The band never moves. Stays in place! And this girl
plays like Mia Hamm. She is awesome!!
