I'm such a tech idiot I don't even know the names of these things. Anyway, they hurt my ears. What are some other alternatives for these that maybe aren't so painful? I've started exercising again and would like to listen to podcasts/ music but I don't think I can stand those plugs that came with my Ipod.

I believe they are called "ear buds" You can use regular headphones or look for a brand of ear buds that fits into your ears more comfortably. I personally hate the default ones that come with ipods.

I bought a pair of ear buds made by SkullCandy at Marshall Home Goods and I love them. I also have a second pair of ear buds called "ear jewels." I bought them while on vacation so am not sure they sell them in the US. They're also really comfy and are bright blue (you're supposed to buy your birthstone lol)

I despise earbud style headphones, so I replaced the ones that came with my iPod with some clip-on over-the-ear style headphones that I found at Target.

They are like these:

Sony MDR Q22LP - headphones - Clip-on, Binaural (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=clip+on+headphones&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=158925407584425399&ei=FmuOTMPhB4O0lQfF9vXlAg&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=image&resnum=6&ved=0CE0Q8gIwBQ#)

You can just use any old headphones. I like Sennheiser for a good balance of value and sound quality. If you use your ipod around other people (as opposed to at home / outside) I also suggest getting "closed" headphones which will ensure that people around you can't hear your music.

Modern ipods are bluetooth enabled so you could look into getting wireless headphones. I haven't tried that but it sounds cool.

I use ones similar to these when I workout because they stay on better for me!!

I like my V-Moda's - they fit "in" your ear vs. the buds that sort of rest outside your ear canal - they make some decent stuff and sometimes Costco has then on sale. http://www.v-moda.com/

Personally, I can't stand the behind-the-ear type either. They make the outsides of my ears hurt after a while.

I use a pair of SONY earbuds like these:

They have soft rubber pads that fit inside your ear. Very comfy.
