Raging tantrums

Please help me. DS1 has started throwing major tantrums - if he's home he will throw himself on the ground which I can handle but he has started banging his forehead against the wall or doors repeatedly and hard. If I try to bear hug him he just gets more upset and starts kicking me. What do I do in the moment? What about later afyter he's calm? How long should I keep him awake afterwards? TIA

TT tried that a couple times and I just let him do it. I would also bring out a pillow and start punching it to show him an alternative.When I would walk out of the room he would stop becasue he wasn't getting the attention.

I have a PnP set up for tantrums/timeouts.........I set DD in there and when she calms down I take her out.
