My 18mo old dd has finally decided books are interesting! We have a ton of the Boynton books, Eric Carle, and Karen Katz, but we pretty much read the same books over and over and over. I'm not sure I can take much more "Where is Baby's Bellybutton?" and "But Not the Hippopotamus."

What are your favorite board books?

Jamberry is fun to read.

Goodnight Moon has lovers and haters. I never really got it pre-kids, but DS1 and later DD *adored* that book.

If you like Boynton, Snuggle Puppy is cute.

Tails and other touch/feel type of books

Dr. Seuss in boardbook versions

When their language is exploding, we always liked the Priddy board books with simple pictures and a word on each page. Some are in a larger format (multiple pics with labels on each page) and some are more the traditional board book size (one pic, one label per page)

DD loved Olivia at that age.

Both kids like Jesse bear, what will you wear.

DS loves moo baa la la la, and Mr, Brown can Moo, can you? I have a problem with the Dr. Seuss board books, as they have been heavily edited and even arbitrarily changed from the originals.

At around 18 months, both kids started being nicer to real books which opens up additional options.

We like "Book!" by Kristine O'Connell George, it's about a toddler and his new book, so we copy some of the things in the book: when he wears it like a hat we do that, when he's snug in his mother's lap to read it I give her a big hug, and when he hugs his book she hugs hers too. She grins at those points.

I have some new ones that so far I'm really liking, "Bear Snores On" and others in the series by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman; "A Good Day" by Kevin Henkes; and "My First Animal Board Book".

We also like Matthew Van Fleet's books "Heads," "Tails," and "Cat", though they're not actually board books, they have fairly thick pages and things to touch, pieces that move, so they're sturdier than a regular book but in certain spots you need to be careful.

I've also picked books based on ideas for upcoming events or hobbies, like a visit to the zoo, snow, Christmas, and birds, both to introduce the concepts and hopefully to help her remember them after an event has passed. So you might try searching for books based on things you'll be doing/have done recently, or family interests (outdoor activities, pets, frequent vacation spots, etc).

Chugga-chugga Choo Choo and Goodnight Gorilla are big hits. Gorilla is a longtime favorite, Chugga is newer, but very popular here!

The "Calico" books are big hits too. The adventures of a little calico kitty. There is Hello Calico, Uh Oh Calico, and Friends for Calico. There's something very sweet about them. There area couple more I believe.

The Boynton books are popular too. They are DHs favorite to read.
