Dishwasher problem

We have been having issues w/ out Dishwasher. We have a basic GE washer, use some Eco-dishwasher detergent and use the rinse agent as well.

So lately when we have been running the dishwasher, the dishes just don't get clean - they don't still have food residue on it, but just look icky. What could it be? Do we need to replace the whole thing or do you think it is something else?

Dull and like they have a residue on from the detergent?

Have you cleaned out the filter if you have one?

DH just did this on our rental dishwasher and there was all kinds of lovely in there (tape, etc. that must have been used as labels on containers?.

Is there a problem w/ both the top and bottom rack or just one or the other?

I agree with checking the filter, our dishwasher has 3 separate filters. There's separate filters under the main one that sometimes a lot of gunk can get caught in.
