Hi all. DS came home from school with a sheet all about apples. They are asking to bring in dishes made with apples. I am sure someone will make apple pie and apple sauce. I would love to make something. Anyone got a great apple recipe of something I can make and bring in?

Thanks for the help!

How about cinnamon apple pancakes, an apple crisp or pressed apple juice?

DS's preschool teacher made apple butter in a crock pot a couple of years ago. It seemed easy, and the kids loved eating it warm and spread on bread.

Apple fries! From Family Fun
"For the fries, peel some apples and cut them into sticks resembling fresh fries. Roll them in a cinnamon and sugar mixture and bake them for 8 to 10 minutes in a preheated 400 F oven. Serve with a side of strawberry preserve as fake ketchup.
What a fun lunch."

Its kind of messy but who can say no to carmel dipped apples. You can buy a bag of those Kraft carmels and dip the apples then cut them up to serve the kids at school.

This is a treasured, well loved recipe (by both children and adults) that we normally make for the holidays:

Cranberry Apple Casserole

3 cups peeled, chopped apples
2 cups cranberries (1 bag Ocean Spray)
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
3 (1 5/8 ounce) packages instant oatmeal with cinnamon and spice
3/4 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
Pecan halves
Additional fresh cranberries

Combine apples, 2 cups cranberries, and 2 tablespoons flour, tossing to coat; add 1 cup sugar, mixing well. Place in a 2 quart casserole.

Combine oatmeal, copped pecans, 1/2 cup flour, and brown sugar; add butter, and stir well. Spoon over fruit mixture. Bake, uncovered at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Garnish with pecan halves and cranberries. Yield 6 to 8 servings.

We like this apple and carrot "salad". http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/apple-carrot-salad-50088.aspx

It's basically chopped apples and grated carrots inside lemon jello.

apple fritters (aka apple pancakes)

just take some regular pancake batter (from scratch or a bag), add a couple T of brown sugar and some apples that you've cut up and microwaved or steamed until steaming, and fry in dollar size in a little extra canola oil than regular pancakes.

My kids adore these!

Or make these cute bite size caramel apples! http://christyrobbins.blogspot.com/2010/09/apple-mini-caramel-apples.html

This apple dip is fabulous and really easy for a big group.
http://www.grouprecipes.com/53710/layered-caramel-apple-crunch-dip.html

Mix cream cheese and sugar, cover with caramel dip (we buy the Marzetti fat free). Sprinkle with crushed Heath bar (the key..) and arrange apple slices around in flower petal or sun ray pattern. Can look chi-chi or causal. I had it at a Halloween party and they had sprinkled little plastic spiders on top which the kids were wild about. Not an apple slice left...

Not sure about the nut issue for heath bars if for school... maybe another nut free toffee bar instead?? FA moms may know the answer for that one.

I love a tart-n-crunchy apple with this like granny smith, Haralson, or Honeycrisp. Sweet Tango's are my new fav, but they're like $3/lb here! I think I did fuji or braburn before I learned about Honeycrisp, and they worked well.

Just clicked on link above for mini-carmel apples... OK that is AWESOME!!!! Will be making that for sure!!

What about fondue? Apples cut into bite-sized pieces, toothpicks for "skewers", and a pot of melted cheese. I only thought of this because it would be SO easy to do.

We just had this apple thing too! We were boring and made apple-peach cobbler and were the only ones with apple cobbler or pie. You might want to check what the other parents are bringing. My fave item other than our cobbler ;) was an apple teacake someone made with chocolate chips. Someone also brought apple cheese which was really good!

We have an apple tree in the back yard and we have way too many apples. They must be a baking apple, because they are a little too tart to eat raw. I did a search this weekend on the forums looking for recipes and am glad to see lots of new ones posted in this thread! Off to see what I need to keep baking.
