My baby is unable to hold down anything except the ultra smooth puree that you find in the stage one or stage two jars - he can't even do rice cereal. We're in the process of investigating, but so far there is no known cause. I do want to get away from the jars, though, and I'd like to buy my own mill. Any recommendations for an ultra smooth puree?
Thanks!

Skip a mill and go for a stick blender (immersion blender) or a food processor; then you can easily add whatever amount of liquid you need to get a nice, smooth consistency. With the food mill it will be much more "coarse."

I have one like this (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=kitchen+aid+immersion+blender&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=12907374610094033444&ei=VrmgTIvtLtCMnQeZg6WSDQ&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDcQ8wIwAA#)and love it.

When I wanted a smooth puree or wanted to get all the little bits out, I'd use a fine strainer after the food processor. It was a bit more work though.

I have used the stick blender on bananas, and it seemed to incorporate alot of air bubbles - he didn't hold it down (though perhaps I should have watered down the mixture).
Will a mill always give a courser consistency, or does it depend on the brand?

It will always give a coarser consistency, imo. It's basically just small holes that you're shoving the food through, so it's going to be quite chunky yet when you're done. Much closer to a stage 2 or 3 food.

I never blended banana; I used a fork to mash it up.

I just used our Kitchen Aid 7 cup food processor and it worked great. DS had a hard time with texture for the first little while so I had to make his purees smoother and I liked being able to control the consistency when he was able to handle more texture. It comes with a smaller bowl insert for making smaller amounts as well.
