These are expensive but appear to be VERY warm and waterproof and beautiful. I have a birthday coming up so I might ask for these. What do you think:

http://www.amazon.com/Pajar-Womens-Labelle-Shaft-Riding/dp/B002AMUM68/ref=sr_1_43?s=STORE&ie=UTF8&qid=1285881710&sr=8-43

But, I like these too and think these would look better with the this lands end parka that I just bought: http://www.sundancecatalog.com/product/footwear-and-bags/boots/pajar%27s+mountain+high+boots.do?sortby=ourPicks

Lands end parka I finally bought (I was still wearing the one that fit when I was pregnant with the twins!): http://www.landsend.com/pp/LuxeDownParka~212711_59.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::THY&CM_MERCH=IDX_00002__0000000155

Honestly, the second Pajars are really casual but being a SAHM who am kidding? I don't need so dressy and these second Pajars are kinda cute. Certainly less expensive What do you think?

I gotta have something that I can wade through frozen slush in but still look great. Suggestions? I'm looking for black. TIA!

I love the "I gotta...still look great!"

Merrell Spire Peak (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2963105?cm_cat=datafeed&cm_pla=shoes:women:boots&cm_ite=merrell_'spire_peak'_waterproof_boot:212712&cm_ven=Froogle&mr:trackingCode=AFB27108-889D-DF11-904F-002219319097&mr:referralID=NA) says waterproof and Thinsulate, although the description does not say anything about wading through frozen slush. I like Sorel boot for those days. The Merrells are super nice and comfy. I wear them with dresses.

Wow, I'd like to know too. I got some shorter black boots from Naturalizer. Basically winter boots, but more sleek--the material is manmade. I could wear them with jeans/pants.

Nice. If they're waterproof and wipeable, the'd prob work. The prob is that you don't want to be wearing Sorels every day when you're in a cold/snowy climate. It gets depressing. I only wear them for snow shovelling.

Have you tried La Canadienne boots? They are definitely not cheap, but as their name implies they are made in Canada and those folks know their winter weather. I have two pairs, one lined and one not, and they are super water and weatherproof. Plus they look great!

I agree with the recommendation for La Canadienne boots. I have had 2 pairs of them in the past and they have held up great through several freezing, wet and slushy winters. Yes, they are crazy expensive, but I usually buy them at 50% off at the end of the season - of course that doesn't help you now:).

My Merrells (Park plaza or something like that) are pretty waterproof. I don't think they'd be warm enough for where you are though.

These probably aren't waterproof enough, but I want these (in black). They are "water resistant". I tried them on yesterday and they are toasty warm!

Those are really cute, but the first day where the snow is even slightly slushy and the salty slush would totally ruin the suede.

At the recommendation of npace, I'm checking out the La Canadiennes and totallly drooling over them. Warm, beautiful and waterproof, just what I need. Maybe I could ask for them for an early Christmas present?

Santana Aquatherm. I have a pair from last winter (we had record-setting snowfall, lots of slush, snow on the ground, etc) that I wore a ton and they still look brand new. I get tons of compliments on them.

They're similar to these:

Oh, I am so glad you posted about these! Yes, I remember looking at this brand a couple of years ago. I'd completely forgotten.

Now, how did the suede do when the snow got a little more slushy? I just hate those days when the snow starts out brittle and by afternoon it's warmed up and gotten slushy. That's when I ruin suede boots. I love the look of suede but I shy away from them. Do the Santanas hold up under those conditions?

Just so you know...I live where La Canadienne boots are made and based. I spend a lot of time at their flagship store scouting their sales. And I own 2 pairs and love them (like most of my Quebecoise friends) :) But they are NOT warm enough to be your everyday boot in Minnesota unless you spend most of your time in your car.

I'd go with Kamik, Sorel, Merrell or even Keen. I've seen some North Face that are cute and well-lined as well. La Canadiennes are great for the metro or car commutes and as dress boots, but I'd NEVER wear them walking my DS around our neighborhood or waiting for the bus. Not past mid-Dec. :D

They are water resistant but only very lightly lined. My worn out Hush Puppies have a more substantial lining. I wear my Sorels (decidedly unstylish, but they make more stylish pairs than the ones I have) or my Keens. Uggs have some cute styles too that are much better at standing up to a Canadian - or an Upper Midwestern winter.

This is VERY good to know, thank you. Now I won't be drooling over them quite so much. :D yep, gotta have waterproof AND warm since the mornings here can start out cold and end up warm and wet by the afternoon.

I wear my Hunter boots, but they might not be warm enough even if you wear them with a liner if you are out in the elements for long. i am fine with long socks and the liner for trips around the neighborhood and shoveling.

I'm in the mid-Atlantic, so all our snow turns to slush. They looked fine - water just beaded up and rolled off. I don't even think I ever bothered to brush them after the winter, and I just pulled them out and you'd never know what I put them through.

I like the 1st pair, but don't think suede is very practical unless you are dealing only with DRY snow and no slush, KWIM? I do NOT like the 2nd pair at all. I think you could wear the 1st pair with your new parka.

I was wondering about that too, but if they are waterproof, you'd think the suede would be treated to deal with the slush. At least, for that price, they SHOULD be treated to deal with the slush.

I just looked and there are a lot of cute ones- but only a few of them are waterproof. None had much inside to keep my tootsies warm. darnit.

It seems like the stylish, waterproof, warm boots are all really expensive. As my mother used to say, "O, the price we pay to be beautiful!" ;)

Question for you all: when wearing jeans do you gals wear a tall boot or shorter boot underneath? Everything I see is tall boots, which I think look awesome with skirts, but how comfortable and practical is that underneath jeans?
FWIW...I don't think I really have the body for skinny jeans tucked into them either ;)

Depending on the jeans I was wearing and my mood, I'd either wear the jeans tucked into the boots, or the jeans over the boots and maybe fold the cuff up a bit (mostly to avoid getting the jeans wet). I don't find the tall boots uncomfortable under jeans.

Lisa, I was at the mall today, talking with a mom in the Disney store (the kids were playing together). I asked her about her great boots and she said DSW. I went down there, and got the same boots for $70. I think they would look great with a parka. They say they're waterproof (not sure how much that's true)
http://www.dsw.com/shoe/bare+traps+ellery+boot?prodId=207935&category=dsw12cat1000004

They had a very large seleciton of tall boots, have you checked there yet? I've never had tall boots (I have thick calves). This mom was wearing them with jeans tucked in, and they looked so cute! I tried them on with jeans tucked in and since my jeans were pretty loose and bootcut, I almost couldn't get them zipped up. I'll have to wear the slim(er) jeans I have. They seem a bit thick to wear jeans over, but IDK. I was also wondering how I'd wear them with a skirt, maybe a cute cord. one. Would I wear tights in the fall or would that look stupid? Would it look stupid to wear these boots with no tights b/c they're furry and then you'd have bare skin peaking on top of furry boots, is that weird? I don't know, I've never worn tall boots!

Oo- did you get those? They are really cute!

I think the best pants to wear with knee-high boots are skinny-leg pants. I am pear shaped and VERY curvy so typically skinny jeans do not work at all for me. But these from ATL fit and look great. I just got them in black and brown: http://www.anntaylorloft.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=29097&N=0&Ntk=KeywordSearch&Ntt=julie+skinny&Nty=1&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&found=2&defaultSizeType=Regular I think they'll look great with boots.

I also like to wear jean skirts with tights and knee high boots. Also, corderoy skirts look good with tights and boots. I have seen some basic, casual skirts at Target the last 2 fall seasons.

YEs! I did! I just loved them so much on the other mom. They're flat and comfortable, but stylish (I don't do heels well) and warm, and under $100! I am really going to have to seek out some fall skirts to wear with tights. I saw a cord one at Kohls, maybe I'll use my KC for that. I'm going to have to put it on the list for Target.

Well, it depends on how much you want to spend. But I've been keeping an eye on this skirt:

http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?catId=CLOTHES-CWOUTFITS1&navAction=&id=19168012

With all those pleats and darts in the back, it would be a great denim skirt for my figure. But I hate spending $78 for another denim skirt since I already have one I like. But I KNOW that cut of skirt and it would fit my pear shape really well.

ETA: Oh, duh, you probably meant do I have any more recommendations from ATL. I have found that most of the stuff in the Julie cut works pretty well on me.

No, I did mean ANY store. There's an anthropologie near us and I don't have a denim skirt. I try to stick to a-line, so I wouldn't have tried that skirt.

I agree with the Julie cut from ATL - that's the only trousers I buy.

Oh, I really like those in black!!! Especially with the buckles- they kind of make them, I dunno, "biker- like." I really have to focus on waterproof though or I'll just ruin more boots. I'm always sad when I see a "salt" line start to appear on my boots or when the suede dries and becomes hard and crispy. They are so hard to repair when that happens. :(

Sally- look at my post towards the beginning of the thread! I want the same boots! :D

I tried them on the other day and LOVED them. So warm and comfy! I'm going to wait until November to get them, though.

ETA: I kind of like the one with the heel, though- the same style but with a little wedge. Can't decide which ones to get!

Cute! You know, I prob looked at the link, but it didn't register until I saw them on a real, live person, YK? It's hard to visualize what something will look like in isolation. When I bought them, the SA said they were *very* popular. I think the ones with the buckles and wedge are cute too. They had a lot of good styles in that brand. Did you try them both on? They are so warm and cozy. I'm finding it a bit crazy, though, that I have to go out and buy specific pants to wear with them (who knew!).
