At what age do kids start playing with these? We have a just turned 3 yr old boy and I'm wondering if I should wait to get these?

3 yr old is perfect. DS2 started playing with them very early; he started at 2, maybe earlier.

There is also a good Magnatiles deal on amazon.com right now.
http://www.amazon.com/Magna-Tiles-Translucent-Colors-100-pieces/dp/B000CBSNRY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=A1M5WY8N698MVG&s=toys-and-games&qid=1285789903&sr=1-1

Use code: LGV8IUNZ for another 5% off and of course, there's free shipping!
100 piece set for $113.95 and 32 piece set for $48.92
ETA: I just looked at the slickdeals link and full price with the 20% code is actually less than the amazon.com deal. Should have checked before I posted!

Can someone else check to see if the BBB code is working for them at the www.magnatiles.com (http://www.magnatiles.com) site? It worked for someone earlier today or yesterday but doesn't seem to be working right now for me.

For a 2 yr old who doesn't really stay occupied would you recommend the 32 pc set or the 100 pc set since I'm not sure whether she'll like it?

I'm probably going to go against the norm, but I would just start with the 32 pc. set. DS got them when he was 2, and he only recently started playing with them (he's almost 3). However, if the 100 pc set is a much better value, then I'd say go for it!

I guess its definitley better value since the price is $51.50 for 32pc or $120 for 100pc set.

We have the trucks and love them. They are alot of fun and allow for many creative options. We put away a few of the tiny pieces (lights, etc) but that doesn't effect the play value. I've been very happy with the quality. The magnets hold together well without being too strong. If your kids love building and love vehicles then they will enjoy this set.
There is also a similar set at lakeshore learning that has more pieces (can't attest to the quality though- it's definately different- not valtec). If you have more then one child you might consider the larger set.

Is it worth it to spend the extra $10 to get the "clear" set?

A friend of ours had these - they are so cool! I'm not sure if the adults or children were more entertained. I've had my eye on them for a while now.
Anyway, the code fall special worked. You can't use 2 codes, so you can't also stack giggle. Thanks!
Thanks for posting OP.
Quick question to those who own magnatiles. Is the pc 100 set enough? Do you find that you need to add more sets? TIA.

We started 3 years ago with 100 pieces. We quickly added another 100. I had found some awesome deal and I think I paid around $75/set, so I picked up 2 at the time.
With 3 kids, they still get played with a lot and I'm glad we have 200 pieces. DD was 18 months when we got them and DS2 had played with them for a while and he's just 2 now. They're great for a wide variety of ages.

Depends how many kids I would say. :) 100 is a good start and will probably satisfy most kids.
We have 148 pieces (the 48 piece deluxe set and the 100 piece clear) It is "usually" enough for 2 magnatile crazy kids.
That said if I see a great deal we will be adding another 100 piece clear for Christmas.

Thanks! I just ordered 100 clear for my 2 and 4 yo DS. I got a partial set secondhand a while back and just pulled it out today to see if they liked it, they LOVED it. Even my 11 yo DD had a blast (although I don't think she wants her name on it under the tree, she's holding out for knee high Converse, LOL).
We have 30 now but I can definitely see the need for more. There's not really enough for the boys to share effectively since they really do *need* the other's pieces. Plus, they're pretty limited with 30 pieces. They did build really cool stuff, but I can't wait to see what they can do with 100!
FWIW, the Fall Special code was a better price, but $4. ($100.50 vs. 104.50 shipped)

So, is this the best deal we can probably hope for on these? I have never priced them before. Are they likely to go cheaper on BF or as a Lightning Deal on Amazon? TIA!

My son likes the trucks a lot. But they aren't real sturdy, as you can imagine since they are held together by magnets. They can be rolled/moved a little bit, but must be on a flat surface. As long as you get them to just build the trucks and create new ones, you won't be disappointed.

Doubtful, the price on these doesn't get discounted much. We can all send positive vibes out though, can't hurt!!!!!

Awesome! My DS told me the other day that his favorite toys at preschool are the magnatiles. So, I just ordered him the 100 piece clear set for either his birthday or Christmas. I mentioned the deal to his teacher and she is super excited because she had planned to buy some for her family members because of how popular the tiles are with her students. (She actually had to remove the magnatiles from her classroom for a while because the kids were fighting over them. :))

Just decided to jump. Went to a community get-together today with a small set of these and DD couldn't keep her hands off them. Thanks for the deal!
