Thanks for posting this Ceepa. Do you think an almost 6 year old is too young for this? DH is an engineer and I thought it would be fun for them to do this together.

My 5 yo LOVES his snap circuits and can follow the instructions all on his own.

The instructions are illustrations similar to legos.

He's the perfect age for this.

DS1 got a set when he was 6. It didn't take him long to follow the instructions himself.

Is it worth getting the SC-300 for someone who already has the SC-100? He's 9 yr old and loved the SC-100.

Would this be a good gift for ds's friend who loves legos?

I was trying to figure out the same thing and found this upgrade kit on amazon which provides the parts and instructions to make your sc100 an sc300 kit.

Daphne,
I think that this would appeal to a child that enjoyed putting legos together.

There is an upgrade kit to take a 100 set up to the SC-300.
Reg, $35, sale $22.71

I found a list of the parts and projects for the SC-100 and the SC-300 for comparison. The first 100 projects in the SC-300 set are the same as the SC-100 set so I would rather purchase the upgrade kit to avoid redundancy.

Which is the best starter kit. DS is 5 and is excellent with legos. I think this is something he would enjoy is the Snap Jr kit enough or is to too small the child gets bored quickly?
Thanks for the advice. I've been eyeing these for awhile and a good price makes me want to pull the trigger :)

I'd go for the 300. I was warned I'd regret getting the 100, got it anyway (DH said just start small), and wish I got the 300. Although, the Green one looks tempting-don't know anything about it, but the 300 is prob more generalized, kwim?

As long as it is in your budget, I'd go with the 300 at a minimum. DS was 5yo when he got his 300, and promptly put the 750 on his Christmas list. The 300 quickly got passed down to DS2.

According to this site it looks like these have been staying steady with this price for a little while.

One of the expansion sets that upgrades it to a 300 or 500 set.

We homeschool so I went for the 750 piece kit a few years back. DS1 is 6.5 and has been using it for a good year or more now, and has no trouble building on his own.

I know my DD and DS2 will eventually be using them so we just went for the larger kit from the get go.

DS has the 300. Are there any expansion sets that will make his set a 500 or 750? Thanks.

Yes, there are expansion sets to upgrade to 500 and 750 from 300.

Which is the best starter kit.

I got my nephew the 100 set (he's now 9, so I probably gave him the 100 set when he turned 7? What's the "age range" on them?) Anyway, I heard from my sister that the totally loved it, so I was able to get him the upgrade set to the 200. I REALLY like the price range of the 100 set and the upgrade cost again the same thing. I also appreciate that they make expansion/upgrade sets to make it an easy price entry point.

Anyway, if you don't want to pay a lot, the 100 set is great. (My nephew got creative and made different things after he went through everything in there.) THen you can upgrade with other sets along the way without having to pay too much.

Would a 5.5 year old who does great with the Jr set solo be ok with the 750 or would the 500 be better?
TIA
