I was watching them make egg salad on everyday foods. They said 12 min is the best amount of time to boil eggs so they are done, but not gray. I never know how long to boil eggs, so I timed it to 12 minutes and they turned out perfectly yellow, no gray ring!

They also suggested using some old bay in your egg salad.

That changes everything, doesn't it?

9 years I've lived here, and I STILL haven't figured out the right amount of time to cook eggs or rice! Unfortunately, that results in a lot of gray-green tinged eggs and mushy rice, since they're both way better overcooked than undercooked...

Place eggs in cold water and cover by an inch or so. I boil on med heat until a rolling boil. Turn off heat and put on pot lid. Start the timer for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes drain and flush with cold water. This usually gets me perfectly cooked eggs.

That's what I usually do, but I have to leave them in for 20 minutes. At which point, half of them are cooked perfectly and half are overcooked. If I try to go shorter, they end up undercooked, which is no bueno!
