It seems totally crazy that I don't know what to eat. . . but I don't.

My mom doesn't believe in low fat diets, and my husband thinks they are the worst thing for you. . . but now I'm having gallbladder attacks and really need to be eating a low fat diet for at least a while.

So, I know I can eat fruits and vegetables. Can you help me know what else would be good to eat?

I can't do any dairy (low fat or otherwise) because my nursing baby doesn't handle it very well. Tomatoes (including sauce) & citrus also cause her problems.

TIA!

Looks like I am in the same boat. Dr. thinks my gallbladder is not functioning correctly and will most likely need to be removed. I am supposed to eat low fat as well. He also said to avoid things with eggs in them. He basically said chicken, fish, and turkey for protein and veggies. I am like you and don't know where to start.

You can do egg whites/egg beaters or beans for protein. Check out Ellie Krieger's book http://www.amazon.com/Food-You-Crave-Luscious-Recipes/dp/1600850219 (http://www.amazon.com/Food-You-Crave-Luscious-Recipes/dp/1600850219)
You will get some great ideas in her cookbook for healthy low fat foods. Ideally see a nutritionist to get a tailored eating plan especially if you are nursing.

Maybe try some vegan recipes..... I like Vegan Comfort Food (http://www.amazon.com/Quick-Easy-Vegan-Comfort-Food/dp/1615190058) . I'm not a vegan but cutting out cheese and meat does make foods much lower fat.

I've had a gallbladder attack, it's no fun at all - my sympathies! Good luck.

Those cookbook suggestions look like they will have recipes in them that I'd enjoy even if I wasn't in this situation, so THANK YOU for giving me hope that there's going to be more to mealtime than grilled chicken salad without the tomatoes & cheese.

I've now had five attacks, and they are lasting longer & coming closer together. My surgery is scheduled for next Friday. I may or may not need to eat low fat the rest of my life.

 to you, swrc00. If you want to pm me to compare notes, feel free to do so. The surgeon said today that the recovery is actually easier for people whose gallbladders have stopped working, because their digestive systems are already used to functioning without them.

I'm bumping in case the weekend brings people who are home and can share recipes!

I can't afford to buy any books for at least another week. . . and payday is surgery day. So I'm hoping for an idea or two of what to put together this week. I've spent hours doing internet searches, but nearly every recipe that's marked low fat has dairy in it, so it won't work for me.

I was constantly hungry before. . . but now I'm up at 4 am because I'm so hungry.

Try this....go here http://allrecipes.com/Search/Ingredients.aspx
Type milk, cheese (and whatever dairy products you can think of) in the right column and whatever ingredient (s) you do want in the left column. I typed in chicken in the left and milk/cheese in the right and got thousands of recipes.

Try this site:
yummly (http://www.yummly.com/home/simple2)

I punched in <20 g/fat, no dairy, no tomatoes and got 80,000 options

:bowdown:THANK YOU infomama and MomToOne! I knew computers had to be able to do that! Those are going on the bookmarks for sure . . . unless I can figure out how to make them one of our many permanent tabs on firefox.

You've saved my life, my sanity, and my happiness for this week!
