I know you all were on the edge of your seats on this one, so I'll post the final outcome. I kept the Frye's.
I ordered the Modern Vintage ones and I really did like the way they looked, however, my calf was bulging out the top of them, and they were way too small in the foot too. So I returned them.
But I just love the Frye's though. They are gorgeous and they make me feel like a million bucks. They are the most I have every spent on shoes in my life but DH and I had made a little deal and this was part of the agreement. :) I am hoping they last for years and years!

------------
So I ordered the Frye boots I kept going back to after a few weeks of searching and they arrived yesterday. I got the dark brown. They are gorgeous but I think I may need to go down a half size, as they are pulling up on my heel quite a bit (which I think is normal for a pull on boot, but it's really a lot). They rock though.

BUT then a coworker who sends me updates on what is hot on gilt (I created a monster! I am the one who turned her on to it!) alerted me to these boots. So I got them in a 9. Doh!

What do you guys think? Frye's or Modern Vintage?

I think I still have time to cancel my Gilt order, but I think I might just keep them both to try on and return the ones I don't like as much. The Modern Vintage price is a big plus right now too, compared to the Frye's.
I would not keep both of them.

I can't get the Gilt link to work. But, personally, I wouldn't spend the money for the Frye boots if they weren't the classic Frye style -- I like those boots, but not $450 like them. You can get riding boots from many different brands, cheaper.

I also am not sure I would spend that money if I lived where you do, KWIM? Wouldn't you get more wear out of flip flops, LOL??

The modern vintage boots look gorgeous and they are half the price! ETA that if you had your heart set on the Frye boots and like them better (either now before you get the Gilt shipment or after you compare) don't feel guilty about keeping the more expensive boot. They are a classic style, excellent quality and will last very long time

well i do splurge on the flip flops! But yes, this makes a lot of sense to me too. It's what I'm leaning towards (returning the frye's)

Here's the link. I'll update it in the main post too.

Do you really like the Frye boots better, you just feel guilty about the price? They rock, BTW.

Really, though, if it doesn't matter (you like them both equally), I would get the ones that feel the best on, meaning not canceling your order but trying them both on first to try out.

Maybe your feet don't like Frye boots. My feet are not fans of Cole Haan, as much as I try to tell them to like the brand.

But yum. I love them!

Hmmm... I happen to love Frye boots, and I think these are yummy. But ITA with maylips, whose suggestion that you try both on and see which one your feet like the best.

Frye boots last for.ever., as I'm sure you know! You should like them a lot and fit well in them.

It's also funny that you say this because on all the boots threads, people are commenting on how the boots will hold up in rain, slush and snow, and I just keep thinking, "you mean you wear your nice boots out where any kind of moisture might come into contact with them???"
;)

Personally, I like the look of the Frye ones better, but for me, I don't like them enough to spend $435 on them for myself.

I just ordered these Clarks for me (in black (not suede)):

Oh, and if anyone else is looking for boots, amazon gave me 20% off that only showed up in checkout, not on displayed price. You can also get an additional $10 credit if you have Prime. Killed the deals on piperlime and elsewhere.

Frye boots will last forever and I think those are classic enough.

try them on with thick socks. my frye dorados (the dorado low) slipped at the heel at first, but 4 years later they are perfect (they were perfect after a few weeks actually). in fact, all my frye's slip until they break in. you might also want to think about an insole since frye's aren't really cushiony on the inside. all of these things will affect the fit.

once the sole gets flexible they slip less.

Modern Vintage Janet all the way! Like the color and style better. More classic IMO, but then again, I am not a huge fan of Frye boots.

Because the brand is so closely tied with Texan cowboy boots which are totally not my thing! :ROTFLMAO: I do like the pair you linked though, I just liked the MVJ ones better. ;)

got it. ;)
Although these particular frye's aren't that cowboy really, but I know that's not what you are saying.
I kind of like doing the cowboy thing on occasion personally. I already have some rad cowboy boots though.

If I was going to buy riding boots I would go authentic.
Ariat.

Yes! Have loved Ariat for quite some time. They were all over the World Equestrian Games. I have an Ariat belt that I wear all the time and on the inside (pressed into the leather) it reads, 'A horse is worth more than riches.":love-retry:
The quality is just fantastic.

Hmmmm... I always buy my paddock boots and other riding gear from Ariat, but never thought of buying *stylish* things from them. You are absolutely right.

When I have money again, lol, I'm going to start eyeing them up. Much Much MUCH too dangerous right now, tho'.
