OK, I know I should just buy Uggs but I'm trying to see if I can find something less fugly and equally warm and comfy. Here are my requirements:

--shearling lined or other warm, cozy, non-smelly lining
--attractive enough to wear with casual skirt/dress/tights as well as jeans
--low or mid-calf
--flat/no heel
--good quality leather/shearling and well-made
--really, truly comfy for walking about town carrying a 15-20 lb baby in carrier.
--water resistant
--slip on or zip-up, not lace-up
--is it too much to ask for decent, grippy soles?

I'm usually a sz 8.5. I'm willing to pay more for a quality product. Would LOVE any suggestions! And if your suggestion is "Get Uggs," tell me which kind! Thanks.

lol @ the fugly comment! It's true, they are not pretty to look at it, but they do keep your feet warm! I bit the bullet & bought the women's "Classic Short" in Eggplant (purple fan here!). I LOVE the color, but I did try walking around the mall in them once & there's no flexibility there. These are okay when dropping the kids off to school, but they weren't very comfortable for walking around. I think there was even an article around about the lack of support in Uggs & what it could do to your foot. These could be a YMMV type thing since many might think these are fantastic (say if you wear heels all day), but I might look elsewhere if you actually want your foot to be able to really "bend" without clunking around when you walk! ;)

Forgot to add that I purchased mine from Cozyboots.com. They're an authorized retailer (and I was actually referred to them by an Uggs CS rep). They have pretty good cs, and I think shipping was fast, too. I think they have a pretty decent sale section, too, in case you want to try Uggs out & not spend a fortune!

I have these: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3037418?origin=category&resultback=306

These are cute but only available in a 6.5: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3037418?origin=category&resultback=306

Not all Uggs have that traditional "Ugg" appearance. These are cute and have good soles: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2895367?origin=category&resultback=1360

I think Nordstrom has an awesome and diverse boot selection on their website and they're a good place to start (even if you don't buy from them - though I find their prices on premium goods to be quite competitive and their customer service is exceptional.)

I like the ones I got from Costco the best right now. I spray them with water repellent spray and let them sit outside for 24 hour before I wear them otherwise I will totally destroy them. I have a pair with soles like this http://www.jumbougg.com.au/winter-uggs-c-102.html from Jumbo Ugg and they are really nice except I ordered too large a size and now I can't wear them since they stretched. I always order mid-calf style.

Born shilos are a comfy flat boot, and you may be able to find some on clearance.

Citymama, check out the boots suggested in this thread. http://www.windsorpeak.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=374737

They look really cute and stylish and they offer much more support than the classic style, which I would stay away from if you are doing any walking in them! Although if you want the classic style I was able to make them more comfortable and supportive by slipping an over the counter orthotics under the insole to provide some arch support.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the heads-up that Uggs boots aren't so ergonomic for walking. I absolutely need good walking boots (that are also cozy and fashionable)! I have all kinds of ankle and foot issues so I don't want to mess that up. Looks like I should stay away from Uggs but maybe will look at those Shilo boots (I love Borns). The Keen Kaley's look great and I'll see if my Nordie's has them, but I haven't had the best luck with Keen's before.

Additional suggestions welcome!

Ooh, these Boden boots look beautiful! Although really a lot more pricey than I was planning on ($238, down to $190 and free ship with the 20% off code):

http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Shoes-Boots/Ankle-Boots/AZ113/Womens-Sheepskin-Boots.html?NavGroupID=11

I have no idea how good their boots are for walking either...and at that price, this would have to be the boot that does it all!

So I am a size 39 (8.5) and I noticed in the mini Boden boots they have these Boden Uggs on sale for $68 which comes down to $58 with the 20% off code. And they have them in sz 39.

http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Girls-Shoes-Boots/39064-TAN/Girls-Tan-Sheepskin-Boots.html

I was all set to buy them, except that they list sz 39 as corresponding to US sz 7 in the mini Boden section (but to size 8.5 in the Women's section). Weird, don't you think?

Yes very. I tried comparing the measurements but they don't measure the same parts of the foot for each boot. I would call and ask, but it probably has something to do with womens sizing being different than mens. Kids shoes are on the mens sizing scale. Mens shoes are typically a size and a half smaller So a mens 7 is a womans 8.5. If that's the case, and the 39 is the US equivalent of a mens 7, the 39 would be your size in the mini Boden boot. Does that make any sense?

Oh, that does make sense. Maybe I should just order them and see - $55 is a good price for shearling boots.

ETA: I just ordered them since they were on the deal of the day and I wasn't sure how long the offer was good! Thanks to free ship and returns I can always send them back. Downside: the boots actually say "Mini Boden" on the back!

I got these specifically after seeing another mom at the mall wear them tucked into jeans. I love that they're warm, cozy, but more structured than an Ugg, and flat.

Today only, there's a $20 and $10 off code that stack, as well as free ship for rewards members (free). So that makes them $40! I reordered at the better price

ETA: These come about mid calf and come in wide too.

What is the code for $10? I am ready to order mine now!

That's so funny. I also wear a size 8.5 or 39 and I certainly wouldn't call my feet "mini"!

If i hadn't fallen asleep before you posted I would've advised you to order them! Let me know what you think...they may not be supportive enough for you but at the price you may want to keep them anyways. :D
