Ok, so I LOVE the sweater dress/tunic with leggings and flats or knee high boots look. Just to show my age - I loved it in it's last incarnation, but I was a curvy size 4 back then lol. Anyone seen any that would work on a (ahem) much curvier larger size? It needs to be more a-line to work on me (loose around the tush).

It's sad how I can now watch all the 80's trends come back...

Have you looked at Boden? They have some nice sweater dresses. Use H441 for 20% off and free ship/returns.

I am bumping this up because I'd love to see some links to more forgiving tunics/long sweaters/sweater dresses. Most that I have seen IRL have not been designed for curvier girls (and I'm not even talking heavy - I just have a real butt, thighs and a bit of a tummy!) I would think it's even harder to find this style with a flattering fit for someone who wears a size 10 or larger.

So c'mon - hit us with some links!

(To respond to the PP, I love Boden, but find their cuts to be very straight and not particularly flattering on my curves.)

I'm nowhere near small and I tried a pair of black leggings with a sweater dress like this one at oldnavy:
http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=46470&vid=1&pid=792305&scid=792305002
and I thought it suited me. I didn't buy just because I wasn't prepared to spend $34 just like that :D

I know this is not A-line at all, but I *love* this sweater dress from ON:

It looks amazing with boots, a wide belt and some dangly necklaces. I'm a size 14 and I got a size L.

I picked this up a Macys today in a like a tweedy black & white yarn. Really cute on and a great price.

Can you wear this with a long sleeve tee underneath? I just can't get over all the short sleeve sweaters out there right now. I would freeze in those in the winter here.

I am planning on wearing it with a long (or 3/4) sleeve black tee underneath. One of those tissue-weight ones from Target.

I love that blue and brown stripped one, but have always heard to stay away from horizontal stripes.

That is very cute! One thing I've found as I'm looking at these sweater dresses, though, is that a lot of them are acrylic, which can pill easily and be scratchy. I hope the one you got has more cotton than acrylic.

Yeah, I've also noticed that a lot of sweaters, especially the cheaper brands has acrylic. I try to avoid those because of the pilling factor.

I got a dress very similar to this at Marshall's last week. I wore it to a party on Saturday with black leggings and black knee high boots, and put a long sleeve tee underneath. I got lots of compliments and felt great! It was nice to feel so comfortable, too, and break away from the jeans.

Sounds very cute *and* comfortable!

I've been kind of stalking this sweater dress, it's 100% Merino wool. It is way pricier, but Land's End periodically sends around 30 or even 40% off coupons good on one item including the Canvas line, and then they do a good sale at the end of the season.

Ah, me too. I bought it in black for that same reason. The stripes are super cute :irked:

Oooh, may have to find that - what department was it in?

I got mine in the petite department, but the regular Style & Co section in the misses department had them too. Oh, and the tweed is 60% cotton and 40% acrylic. Hopefully I won't have too much trouble with pilling.

Um, yeah. In a complete testament to unoriginal thought, I got this today. In the same tweedy black and white. Thank you!!!

I actually spent time looking at Nordy Rack (with DH and DS3 and actually got to look and try on things - NEVER HAPPENS) and didn't find anything. I remembered this thread and literally ran in after the monthly Costco run ('cause I know I won't get out near my Macy's for any other reason) thinking I would get a different one. Nope, found the one I came in for and this was on the next rack and it was just too cute and the perfect cut.

I saw it too, but didn't have a chance to try it on. Great price and cute look. Looks like a lot of their clothes will be marked down quite a bit for Black Fri/sat. The original sweater I posted will be 17.99 (down from $35 when I posted).

Bought this cute sweater dress at Macy's today. I got it in brown. Do you suggest brown leggings? What about boots for this? Same color brown or lighter?

I'd either do brown leggings or brown boots (or too much brown) Maybe navy leggings and brown boots? Or a pattern? Brown leggings and leopard print flats? Red? If you have light brown boots match the leggings to those.
