I ended up returning both items. Thank goodness the lady who sold them to me wasn't there. I was dreading that; she was a really nice SA, but in the end I bought on impulse.

On Friday I found a pair of black Attelier Luxe brand trousers w/a wide tall waist band (never heard of them before so it must be a Nordies Rack brand) at Nordstrom Rack, in a size 12 which fit perfectly. I didn't have time to go and look for other colors but I'll most likely get them in grey, and brown too. Best part of it was that they were $34.99. I wore a deep purple boat neck sweater from The Limited.

Thanks again for all of your input.

I just bought these pants (http://www.whitehouseblackmarket.com/store/browse/product.jsp?maxRec=38&pageId=1&productId=570007357&viewAll=&prd=Legacy+Modern+WideLeg+Plaid+Pant&subCatId=&color=&fromSearch=&inSeam=&posId=3&catId=cat210003&cat=Pants&onSale=&colorFamily=&maxPg=3&size=) there and this top (http://www.whitehouseblackmarket.com/store/browse/product.jsp?maxRec=113&pageId=1&productId=570006924&viewAll=true&prd=ElbowSleeve+Turtleneck&subCatId=&color=&fromSearch=&inSeam=&posId=45&catId=cat210001&cat=Tops&onSale=&colorFamily=&maxPg=1&size=). I am usually a bargain hunter and rarely pay full price for anything, but I am in dire need of nice pants, and I also really liked the top, but wonder if I can do better elsewhere like Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, NY & Company, or even Nordstroms, esp. since I paid $182 including tax. I usually like The Limited also, but they changed the cut of their pants this season (same pants from 2 yrs. ago fit fine!). I tried the stuff on with these shoes (http://www.whitehouseblackmarket.com/store/browse/product.jsp?maxRec=17&pageId=1&productId=570008221&viewAll=true&prd=Croco+Peeptoe+Heel&subCatId=cat210054&color=&fromSearch=&inSeam=&posId=4&catId=cat210019&cat=Shoes+Heels&onSale=&colorFamily=&maxPg=1&size=) and of course looked amazing because they made me 5'10", but of course I own nothing with a 4" heel so I am also thinking that without the height (the highest pair of shoes I own at 3") the pants may look frumpy too. Funny thing is had the shoes come in a wide width I would've gotten them and nothing else and had no buyers remorse, even at $98!

My goal of this trip was to find something for DD2's baptism on Saturday. It's suppose to be cloudy and in the mid 60s.

I don't have any experience with White House Black Market, but those pants are gorgeous & I think original. If you like the way they fit, I say, stick with it. They're really smart looking and classic...you should have them forever. The top is really pretty too. Maybe you could find a top somewhere else for a little less, but maybe not. Every now and then it doesn't hurt to spend a little $$ on yourself, especially for such classic pieces. I say keep them & enjoy them - you've added some great pieces to your wardrobe!

Okay. I think it's a great outfit, but I'm going to say it. IMHO, those pants look fashion-backward, and given all the sleek lines we've seen on the runways the past couple of years, I think you can do better in price, fabric and look.

Like these, that are on sale:
