So, my gas stove/range died on me and I need to go out and get a new one.
I have no idea where to start but some of things that I have thought about that may be nice to have:
-convection oven
-5 burners

Have heard GE & Frigidaire are good brands. My budget is 2k. Anyone buy a gas range recently. BTW, it must be stainless steel to match my other appliances. Thanks so much for your help!

I don't have specific suggestions for you, but I would

1. Read the consumer reports article on them,
2. Check out the appliances forum at gardenweb (lots of talk about high end stuff, but useful for mid range price point appliances too)
3. Not buy at Sears (I have had multiple bad experiences at more than one Sears).

Hope that helps!

We have this model (well, the version that they made 2.5 years ago) and have been really happy with it--it has 5 burners and convection, both of which we've really liked:

We've had a Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel 30" for five years and love it. Several people we know, including my sister, have bought one after trying ours.

It's got a convection option - though I have never taken the time to master it. I just love having gas on top and electric for the oven part.

I don't use the convection a ton, but it's nice to have the option. I don't use the fifth burner a ton, but it's nice to have the option. What I've found that I personally use more than I thought I would is the warming drawer/extra oven. It's great when DH is coming home late to plate his food and stick it in there and I love having that thing every Thanksgiving.

I got electric, but check out the Sears Outlet, if you have one. I got a great deal on my stove.
