And we were like "hmm, what's this...I guess we didn't wipe your face well after lunch!"

And then when we were putting him to bed :47: OMG he had chewed the heck out of one of the side rails! Down into the wood! He's never been a chewer/biter/mouther so we never even thought about this. :duh:

So, please recommend your crib chew guards that will work on a crib with WIDE top rails. We have a Munire Essex:

Thanks!

OMG!
DD1 once woke up with white flecks of paint on her face from chewing the crib.

All my friends told me that the crib rail protectors they bought never worked for them...not the right size, wouldn't stay on, etc. So, I took a receiving blanket I wasn't using any longer and folded it to the width of the rail (with a bit of extra overhang on each side). Then I took wide gross grain ribbon that I had on hand and secured the blanket to the rail by wrapping the ribbon around it and between the slats. So the blanket took up about 12-16in length along the rail (DD1 had a preferred spot to chew) and the ribbon wrapped all along that length and in between say 4 slats. I tied the ribbon to itself on each end. Worked like a charm. Wasn't the most attractive thing but no one was going to see it but us and the babysitter and it was free.

When I was working in EI, I had a client who got her teeth stuck under the rail protector, fell, and ripped her teeth out in the process. I am guessing that's not exactly a common occurrence though. I just recall her mom telling me the story and saying the dentist said he had seen it a few times (maybe to make the mom feel better ;) ) That was also about 7 years ago so maybe they have improved them since then.

Good grief, poor baby! How awful. Perhaps I should try the fabic guards that tie or velcro around the rails?!

We had this one and it was AWFUL. We put it on and went off on vacation (So it had plenty of time to "set") and it STILL came off within a couple of weeks. We ended up deciding we'd deal with teeth mark in the wood.

We used this one with no problems. Other than it isn't quite long enough. Almost 4 yrs later it is still stuck on the crib.

We have this one for our Munire Essex and loved it.

Also, prior to this arriving, we used receiving blankets and tied them with ribbon and it worked pretty well.

Well, I've never heard of it happening to anyone else i know, but after hearing her dentist say he's seen a few cases it stuck in my mind. However, that could totally have been the dentist trying to make mom feel better about a not so fun situation.

She was a super cute kid, even if she was going to be missing her bottom two teeth for a few years :)

Do you recall which size you ordered?

Thanks for the tip!

We use these for the front and side rails, and have not had any problems. Easy to put on and take off for washing. Good luck!
