i was wondering if it really is cheaper to buy the invite software and have them printed yourself. you also would have to buy envelopes....has anyone recently done this? i need about 25 bday cards

on tinyprints the ones i like would be about $35 dollars shipped..a little more than i would like to spend

I purchased mine from here but I had them do a custom design (the dump truck bday one) and then had them printed at Sams for under $10, I don't remember how many I purchased now. They don't normally give envelopes according to the online invitation printing blurbs but I asked and they said no problem.

I've never purchased a design from an etsy seller, but I did look into etsy for a shower invite my host wanted my input on. It's about $15 for a digital copy and design, and places like Kinkos charge at least $ 0.50-1.50/invite to print, then you have to drive there, drop it off, approve the proof, drive back, buy& pick up envelopes, and THEN you get to address, stamp and mail them. It was way too much work for me to saddle someone with (or do myself). I chose Shutterfly's cardstock invites. With a coupon code & free shipping it wasn't bad at all, although I was unhappy w/ the print job they did (there was a white blob in the center of each invite). If they hadn't bungled the printing, I was super impressed w/ how easy it was to personalize, order, and how quickly they shipped.

I've looked into it for DD's upcoming birthday too, but it really is only about a $5 difference or so by the time you pay the seller, print them at Kinko's and buy envelopes for 25 or so invites. Obviously, much cheaper if you need a mass quantity. But it's not worth it to me for the hassle.

I'm going to go with Tiny Prints because I love their designs vs. what I've seen on etsy and I've always had such fantastic quality print jobs from them in the past.

We haven't done it for invitations but we've gone this route for birth announcements and holiday cards.

I worked with this seller for both and she was great, really helpful and willing to change the print sizes.

I then printed them at Costco. It's $15 for the first 50 and then $5.50 for each additional 25. The prints are huge (6.5 x 8.125") and they come with lined envelopes. $15 for design + $20 for printing=$35 for 75 cards.

Edit: just realized you are probably looking for photo invites....

These aren't photo invites either, but I got the train printable party pack from Green Apple Paperie and just printed them myself on cardstock (not the really heavy stuff, but the stuff you can feed through printers, maybe 90 lb?). I have a bunch of this paper from other projects so it didn't cost me extra. I bought size A2 blue envelopes from a local stationery store for 20 cents each. I liked that I could print as many as I wanted. The party pack costs $17 and also came with other printable items: banner, thank you cards, cupcake topper and favor tags. We had a regular cake so I used the cupcake toppers as "confetti" on the table.

Printing at Kinkos is always expensive. I'd check someplace like Color Inc or Mpix. Much more affordable, envelopes are included and the quality is MUCH better than Kinkos. Honestly, I'd print on my (not so hot) home printer before I'd print at Kinkos.

You can upload the file to them and wait for the cards / envelopes to arrive in the mail. Easy-peasy.

ETA: If you don't want a folded card, then you can definitely just have them printed at a photo place. That would be on photo paper instead of cardstock of course, it just depends on personal preference. Just call a local camera shop if you want to find a high quality local photo printer, but IME Costco does a pretty decent job for this stuff.

I get all my invitations from this shop:

I have had birth announcements, birthday invitations and baby shower invitations and all were very nice. She'll make you whatever you are looking for themewise as well if you give her an idea about theme/colors/look, etc.

They are EXTREMELY reasonable- I think I paid around $20 for our invites.

Hope this helps!
