I was at Old Navy today and picked up a couple of mini skirts from the clearance racks. Normally, I wouldn't even look at the mini skirts as I haven't worn anything that short in at least 10 years, but I thought that I could wear them with leggings. So my question is, what tops should I wear with the skirt and leggings? And what length should the tops be?

I've been trying on leggings with different things at home, but haven't been brave enough to wear them in public. I know the first time I do, DH will probably be asking what in the world I'm wearing since I'm generally a pretty conservative dresser.

I love the You Look Fab blog for guidelines on how to wear things. She has great tips on what kinds of tops to wear with skirts:

I'm not sure these ideas would work for a mini skirt though. I'm wondering how a tunic top, or something a little voluminous, would look. I think that might pair well with the mini and leggings.

I'm not sure, but here's a good post that talks about shirt length in general:

I think it might depend on whether the skirt is straight or flared. I've heard long over long, like a but covering tuinc/shirt and a straight mini? I don't think that look would look good with a flared skirt though. If I'm thinking about the ones I saw at ON, they were flared. I like the blogs linked a lot!

I got both straight and flared. Here are a couple that I got (but for way, way cheaper).

Thanks for the great links. I used to have no idea how to put outfits together, but I'm slowly learning here.

Cute! I love the bell skirt and the cord mini. I recently bought a cord skirt a few inches above the knees and plan to wear it with black sweater tights, boots, and a longer sweater. I think I saw the bell skirt at the store and remembered thinking the fabric was so soft, but awfully short. Definitely for wearing with leggings (although the reviews say it's ok alone if you're really petite). IDK. I don't have any great answers, b/c I have yet to leave the house in a any leggings combo yet. Still experimenting/unsure myself.

ETA: How much did you get them for, or in other words, do I need to make a trip to ON?

The first ON I went to was an extra 40% off clearance and they had a lot of stock. The second ON was pretty picked over but it was an extra 50% off. The cord mini was the most expensive. It was $8.xx after the 40% off. The other 3 skirts were $4.xx after the extra percentage off. I also got 2 other skirts not on the website and they were $4.xx and $7.xx. Oh, and the prices were also after using the 10% customer survey coupon. I only went in because of the outerwear coupon (which I did not use) and left with a bunch of skirts.

Good prices. I saw a velveteen skirt at LL bean, but they don't have my size. Something about tall boots makes you want to have skirts! I just saw this picture. Here, she's using a tunic sweater over a short skirt that has a *bit* of fullness to it.
