Please help! My mom called me this morning with a crazy idea- she is thinking about putting together a trip to WDW the week before Christmas, so 12/19-12/24. I know the crowd level gets insane on Christmas and the week after but what about the week before? My DS will be 4 and it is his first trip to Disney. I imagine we would spend 2 days at Magic Kingdom, 1 at Animal Kingdom, and 1 at Epcott.

I know lots of you are WDW veterans but I haven't been since I was a teenager. Now I'm the mama planning the trip and I want it to be a good experience- not a crowded nightmare. Any thoughts?

I would think the first couple of days will be fine, but anything from Thursday on will be a crowded nightmare. If you search Disney World crowd calendar online, you should be able to find some estimates. Good luck!

Looked it up, 12/19 is a 1, 12/20 & 21 are 6, and 12/22-24 are 10. This is on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the most crowded. So, that week is a very mixed bag!

It is likely to be a very crowded nightmare. Most of the school systems in GA are closed from the 18th through early January. Even if the first day or so isn't so crowded, it is going to get VERY crowded VERY quickly.

For a first trip for a 4 year old I wouldn't do it. I would love to got to Disney at Christmas but not with children. Really not even with DH LOL! It is just too nuts to enjoy.

Since he is 4, if you can wait until after the new year the crowd levels will drop dramatically. Maybe Santa or Grandma could give the trip as a present and you leave a few weeks later.

I'd get out of there by the evening of the 21st. Could you go from the 16th or 17th to the 21st? That would be much more reasonable crowd-wise. You don't want to be there when the crowds are a 10 - they will close the parks to new entrants when they hit capacity (which is already a zoo) - sometimes as early as 11am, I've heard.

Thanks for all your help everyone! The dates for our trip have changed now- we're looking at 12/12- 12/16. From what I can tell on some other boards these other dates will actually be really good crowd wise and the park will still be decorated for Christmas. We'll probably be booking tomorrow and then I'm sure I'll have lots of other questions!
