What do you put under highchair to catch food? which is reusable? I want something which is not expensive, easy to clean and maintain, but also safe (no BPA etc..), as I will be handing my DD the food fallen on the mat. ty

We used this one (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3502397) from BRUS for DD1, but I am not sure that it is BPA free. It was super easy to clean and it lasted a long time.

I have this splat mat. http://www.amazon.com/Booginhead-Splat-Mat-Brown-Flourish/dp/B003AIKVDK
It's cheap, easy to clean, BPA free. It's a good size-- I actually have it folded in half (it's round) and it still catches everything.

So far, nothing. But I'm thinking beach towel. We already own them and they'll be easy to wash.

:ROTFLMAO: We dogsat for a friend a few weeks ago and were amazed by how clean the floor was under the baby....

Based on the suggestions from another thread awhile ago we use a $6 canvas cloth painter's tarp from the hardware store. It's khaki colored and is backed with a light plasticky film. The packaging was pretty vague on the details of the film but it didn't smell like a lot of the nastier plastics and we keep it folded inside the tarp so it doesn't touch food.

We have two and rotate them through the washing machine when they get especially dirty from things like berries. My 13 month old is in the tossing everything he doesn't want off the tray stage so the tarps have been a must-have.

I have never used anything under the high chairs, as the flooring has either been hardwood or laminate. I didn't see the purpose of having something else besides the floor to clean. If I the eating areas were carpeted, I could see the advantage of having a drop cloth of some sort.

We use a big bath towel. Easy to shake the crumbs off and throw in the washer when needed.

We also use and LOVE our Mimi splat mat, which we received as a gift. DD1 used it under her booster seat at the table for a year, since then it's been her art mat under her easel or when she does art on the floor. And now it's going to be DD2's splat mat once she starts eating solids! Such a great product and lasts forever.

You could also go to the fabric store and buy a large square of oil cloth. Woud work very well for that purpose.

We have this picnic blanket from C&B, but in a different color:

http://www.crateandbarrel.com/outlet/outdoor/auster-picnic-blanket/s583904

100% cotton canvas on one side, waterproof PVC on the other side (so food won't contact the PVC directly). Large, heavy weight and doesn't slide on hard floors. I wash it every week or so (we have 2 dogs). And it doubles as a picnic blanket when we go out:)

i never used anything because out table is over tile so i found it easier to just clean the floor. but if someone has a carpeted dining area, one of those plastic trays that go under the washing machine would be great (i think, i only just thought of it now) because it would even catch and contain spilled liquids (soup or drinks). and then after a meal, you can just move the seat and carry the whole tray to the sink/garbage to clean it out. like is said, i never tried it though, so it may just sound good in theory.

We have a rug under our table, so I purchased a chair mat from staples. Something like this:
http://www.staples.com/Staples-Economy-Mat-for-Commercial-and-Low-Pile-Carpets-Traditional-Chairmat-36/product_447139?cmArea=SEARCH
Upside, easy to clean, even with large spills (like the whole bowl of oatmeal turning over), easy to vacuum
Downside, I have no idea about the plastic, and I don't worry because I don't refeed, and DS can slide his kinderzeat/tripp trapp back from the table it by pushing on the table with his arms.

Not sure about BPA free, but I used to use those blue tarps you get at the hardware store. It was big, so I folded it in half.

Dog or shower curtain! I actually bought a splat mat from BRU, but I've used it more for art projects now that DD is almost 3. The mat, though large, never seemed to extend far enough- or the food really traveled far!
