great thread, was wondering same thing. i like the responses so far! :) i had a tough 24 hour labor with DS. had planned to do it naturally with a doula present but doula couldn't be there so it was just my DH coaching and after ~22 hours i went for the epidural. if this next one could be just *half* that long, i'd be happy and would totally consider trying for natural birth again. 6 hours sounds like bliss!

I'm asking cuz I can't figure out if I've been in early labor today...I'm guessing not as my fist labor was 8 hours. I have definately been having contractions today but they dont seem to change with position (well, they intensify if I go up and down to and from the floor) and I've been very hydrated. If these are Braxton Hicks then they are more than the first time and have been going all day long! My gut says they probably are at this point but I'm hoping for more. I feel like maybe the baby has dropped as all the sudden my pants and such roll down all the time whereas that wasn't a problem a few days back. And oddly I'm gaining a ton of weight!

DD1: Total labor time at hospital, 13 hrs. Total time with real heavy contractions (thanks to pitocin) before pushing 3 hours. My labor had stalled right as I got to the hospital and since I was already 5/1/2 cm. dialated my water was broken, but 3 hrs. later I was still stalled so I got pitocin. 4 hrs. later I was pushing. DD1 was born after 1 hr. of pushing.

DD2: 9 hours from the time my water broke until she was born. The worst contractions started two hours before she was born. I pushed for 20 minutes. I started having BH contractions five days before I delivered DD2.

First: 24 hours
Second: 3 hours!
Third: 5 hours (but was at 10 cm. for over an hour, baby was just malpositioned; so had he been positioned right, it would have gone even quicker; I only pushed a few minutes once he was lined up properly).

My mom had a MUCJ shorter 2nd labor, but like Amy her 3rd was longer than her 2nd. Take a quick 30min soak (w/ abdomen covered in a warm wet towel) in the tub. If it's real labor, the contx won't go away. But don't stay in the tub longer as prolonged warm water soaks can slow true early labor.

Wow, this is really interesting. I only have one DS and he was 6 hours. My midwife told me that next time I need to get to the hospital as soon as I feel anything. I hope that's true.

My first was 7 hours.
Second was 17 hours.

My water broke at the beginning of both as I never had Braxton Hicks or anything.

I had back labor with the first and pushed for 2.5 hours.

For the second, my water actually broke right after an internal check. The midwife had left the room and I was getting ready to sit up and noticed that I was a lot wetter than I should be from the gel. I had to send my mom out in the hall after someone. I was sent to the hospital and had contractions so light that I couldn't even feel them. We tried various natural ways of getting things moving along, but nothing worked. I ended up with pitocin as my time was starting to run out (water had broken, OB coming on call the next morning, etc.). Once it kicked in, things moved along. I pushed for 10 minutes.

Ummm, I know it's not what you want to hear, but yes,

DD#1 was about a 12-13 hour labor, completely natural and very, very easy with no pain meds.

Ds#2 (almost 5 years later) was an induced labor of approx. 18 hours and I was miserable. I did end up getting an epi about 16 hours in. I didn't even have pitocin....the cervadil they used was EVIL stuff and caused wickedly frequent contractions.

Good luck!!!

Ds1- 20 hours (water broke at onset and contx started asap)
Ds2- 16 hours from when the 1st contx started but closer to 12 hours when I really knew.

DS1-6 hours 20 mins. Water broke, contractions immediately 5 mins apart. Was already 2-3 cm dilated and 80 percent effaced for a few weeks. Pushed 20 mins.

DD-just over 3 hours. For half of that I wasn't sure I was in active labor. Showed up to the FSBC 10 cm dilated with no idea I was that far along. Transition, etc. was very different as compared to DS1 (where transition was much more classic). Spent most of my time at the birth center waiting to feel pushy as at 10 cm my membranes still hadn't ruptured. Pushed w/ 2 contractions and she was out.

DS2-woke up to one huge contraction at 3am. Contractions were immediately 2-3 mins apart. He was born 5 hours later. 2 pushes with one contraction.

ds1 - 3 days of inducing (i don't recommend this :rotflmao:) then 12 hours of active labor.

ds2 - about 3 hours, start to finish (i highly recommend this method)

First one, ended up with a c-section after about 10 hours, but only a couple of "real" contractions. Second one... 46 hours of labor, contractions 4-6 minutes apart the whole time. Ugh.

1st- 8 hours
2nd- 2.5 hours (almost didn't make it)
3rd- 3 hours (but I pushed longer this time because he was posterior)
4th- 2.5 hours

First: about 9 hours (I assume we are measuring from first contractions to birth?) - 3 hours of pushing and then forceps delivery

Second: about 5 hours - 5 minutes of pushing

I hope not! I was in labor for 32 hours with DS, with 2h45m of pushing.

Crossing my fingers for fast labor with this one!

Yes, fortunately!

1st: 2 hours 20 mins
2nd: 6 hours

I was really worried about not making it to the hospital in time with #2, so was very grateful for a longer labor.

DS was 6 hrs
DD1 was 3 hrs and my largest at 10 lbs
DD2 was 8 hrs and my smallest at 7 lbs 13 oz but I think she took longer because she was not in position. She was the only one I had back labor with.

Same here, mine was 7 hours start to finish, but almost 2 hours of pushing since he was posterior. My doctor said the same thing.

I also only have one, but for my mom the second was much shorter than the first (12 hours for the first, less than 3 for the second.)
