View Full Version : Target Halloween costumes "damaged out" at 50% -- wow

Title pretty much says it -- was told today from my Target that all the costumes had been "damaged out" and were no longer for sale. They only went to 50%. Anyone else found this? Sure would have liked to have had a chance at a couple of them for the 75%; perhaps another store nearby will go to that clearance level. (Not that we actually NEED any more costumes! :bouncy:)

Interesting. I was at Target today and didn't go to the Halloween section but did see a few people buying children's costumes. So I at least know that they were still out at my store in MI but I don't know at what discount.

My Target was 50% yesterday. I did get DD a super cutedress up costume for $6. She looks so cute in it.

I love that dress! Couldn't find it in the larger sizes but I need to go check the other Target today....I bet they are all gone though.

That is lousy - my Target was at 75% off today. Costumes, shirts, socks, etc were available and candy was at 50% off. Guess we got lucky.

That's kinda odd, you think they would try to at least sell them at the 50% off :( I was at one of my Target's last night without the girls, so I took another look at the costumes. Still only 50% off and much slimmer pickings than when I was there on Monday morning. I broke down and got an Elmo one for my 2 yr. old for next year (she loves Elmo and when she saw it on Monday she was very excited - hoping she still likes Elmo next year!). Then I found an Ariel one for my 4 yr. old (BIG Disney princess and fairy fan right now). There was only one in her size though and it was dirty, looked like it had gotten trampled on. So I picked up a Tinkerbell costume w/ wings, hopefully I can find green leggings and long shirt to wear underneath it since October is cold in PA! I was really hoping things would drop to 75% off but figured I should grab them while still available.

Your mileage may vary, meaning that all stores vary and it is not a for sure thing.

I bought a Wonder Woman at 50% off for $15. I figured if I don't want it in a few days I will return it.

The costumes at my Target were 75% off today. Candy was 50% off. The signs still said 50%/30% off so the additional markdown must have just started today. I picked up several costumes for pretend play.

I'm bet they will sell them next year, as opposed to real clothes that are damaged out. 50% off was probably the amount they were willing to sell them for before they go into storage for next year. A Spider Man costume is a Spider Man costume, ya know? I think most kids costumes hold up over time.

ETA: Oops, I see others answered the YMMV before me. :)

My Target was 30% off candy and 50% off everything else, including costumes. There were a ton of costumes left at my store, so I decided to wait. Hopefully, I made the right decision, and they won't decide to store them before trying to sell them for 75% off.

Grrr....now thinking maybe I should go back and see if I can get costumes for a better price?! Tinkerbell was $10 and Elmo was $8.50 when I bought them last night. The two other Elmo costumes they had had weird eyes though (they looked cross-eyed!)

That's too bad. I actually haven't been to Target since Halloween. FWIW, Marshalls/TJMax had all costumes for $5. I picked up a cheerleader with pom poms and a cute pink dress with a cupcake on the aprom for $5 each. Not much for boys.

Today it was 50% off everything including candy. This Target had a lot more than the one closest to my house. I didn't scan anything that wasn't candy so maybe it was 75% off and I didn't know it. Darn. The store by my house had slim pickings on 11/1 so I don't know if it's worth even going by again.

Forgot to mention in my earlier reply that I also found the small containers of Playdoh (20 in a bag) for $1.24/bag (75% off). My Target had a whole bunch so I picked up 6 bags. Between those and the $1 playdoh packs from a while ago, I'm really stocked up now.

That stinks, OP! Wonder why they did that.

Our Target had 75% clearance for costumes, and 50% clearance for all other Halloween stuff. It was slim pickings though, as there were no costumes for girls left.

Really?!?!? The economy is sooo bad in our area, probably worse than most places in the US. When I went to target, NOBODY was shopping the 50% halloween other than me getting a few small items, and paying $20 for a star wars costume at 50% is still too rich for my blood. I'm holding out for 75%. I hope ours doesn't stop at 50%, b/c it looks like everyone is waiting for it to go lower in our area.

The store I went to today had a good selection of kid's costumes and t-shirts for 75% off, but the adult costumes, candy, and decorations were pretty much gone. It's near a huge university so I guess the college kids already picked everything over. :)

I continue to be fascinated by the working of Target clearance :) Made it to another Target with DC this morning and yay, picked up a bunch of costumes for dressup at 75%. Also found a few Disney princess accessories (bag and tiara), t-shirts for me, tights for DD, Potato Head pumpkin push-in sets, witch hat, and sailor hat at 75%. Hoping for Play-doh but no luck -- but I'm not complaining as I was delighted that this Target didn't damage everything out after 50%!

I ran in today and there were quite a few costumes there from dogs to kids to adults, all were 75% off. All Halloween decor and other random halloween things were 75% but candy was only 50%. I didn't find any costumes in ds's size that I liked but I got some baking stuff for next to nothing and bought a ton of candy for upcoming parades (we enter our trucks).
I will probably hit the closer Target tomorrow or saturday to check out what they have left.

Thank you for the tip...I had been dragging my feet on going there thinking it would be just 30% or 50% off. I found all the costumes at 75%.

Grabbed costumes for $5 or less. Got the kids:
Rennaissance Princess
Flower Gnome
Alice in Wonderland
SWAT
Captain
Ninja
Cowboy Sherriff

AWESOME deals. I did see a lot of Star Wars but all were large sizes...so I passed I didn't want to get too big and then be stuck with costumes that wouldn't work out.

I got an astronaut costume (no helmet, wonder where I'll get that) for $3 (75% off). I saw the cute Renissance princess costume, but wrong size. I almost got the little red riding hood costume, but it looked a little cheap.

I got a chance to go back to target this afternoon and hit the jackpot. They marked down to 75% off of costumes and decorations and 50% off for candy. I wish I would have checked the candy to see if it was more than 50% off, but truthfully, we don't need to eat more candy.

I got my boys several costumes, anakin skywalker, darth vadar, ironman, optimus prime, two of them are bigger sizes I will hold on to for later. Also got several cute halloween decorations. My kids are REALLY into halloween now, so I think I am going to start decorating more for halloween. I also got the kids new candy buckets. DS3 was playing with a friend's pumpkin bucket this wk and I realized that it was a mistake not to have gotten him one before. Got the older boys scary looking skull ones. They will love them.

UPDATE: So get this -- I stopped at the Target today that I called yesterday to ask about costume clearance and was told all the costumes had been damaged out after 50% so I didn't go by there :duh: and....

you guessed it, the costumes were STILL THERE and now 75%!

What in the world? I was irritated as there wasn't much left that interested me and I bet if I had just gone yesterday I would have found a better selection with it all marked down to 75...can't imagine why the associate told me everything was gone. I asked to speak to a manager who said the same thing. So strange. Too rushed and hassled to even ask anyone about it tonight but planning to follow up cuz I'm just that way.

Anyway, sorry if I alarmed anyone unnecessarily (and yay if people looked earlier than they would have otherwise and got good deals :)

Did find the puzzles, cute socks, jacket for DS, puppet kit, more Potato Head push-ins, Halloween music CD, Princess capelet, Busytown DVD, and some costumes at another Target. Not thrilled with the quality of the less expensive ones (definitely wouldn't pay full price for those!) but for $3 a costume if we get some dressup play use out of them then I'm happy about it.

Hope everyone else finds good stuff!

I swung into Target today, and found a "bee fairy" costume, Minnie Mouse, and a Little Mermaid (I went for the long, tail-like one, rather than the short tutuish one, even though it will be much too big on my DD). I wish I had had more time and had been alone! I was trying to stash them under the basket so they can be saved for Christmas/Santa. I want to go back now, cuz the signs all said 50% off, but they rang up at 75% off. I was so excited! They cost only $15.50 total for three costumes! Yippee!

I went this morning and ours had tons of costumes left--not in all the sizes but a good selection still. I picked up a few Star Wars characters (not sure I'll keep these as they were $10), gnome fairy, knight, ninja, cowgirl, angel, dinosaur, and super girl. Great for the dress up box.

Everything was 75% off but candy was still 50%. The store closest to me was really picked over and had no candy. Went to another store and bought a couple of bags of candy but decided to pass on everything else since my DC wear costume hand me downs from my friends DC each year and I have enough other stuff from past Target sales. I'm trying to be good and stop buying so much stuff I don't really need!

Hit my Super Target today and got a fireman costume for ds for $3 and found a cowgirl dress (i think pieces may be missing) for me for $8.75! There was a really cute Mrs. Robin Hood costume too but I don't think thats actually a character so I left it there. They had a ton of dog costumes in fact thats what half the aisle was. I saw no candy and would liked to have looked further but ds was stinky and people were giving me strange looks at the stench...
