Anybody play the magnet games in Houston ISD?

Gearing up for magnet/Vanguard applications in HISD. Anybody here have experience with the process?

We seriously considered going this route, even though we live in an area with some really great schools, but we decided to do private school instead. We both work and even now 2 drop offs and pickups is all we can handle and an awesome after school program is a must for us. If we did the public school magnet route and had a third (which we are hoping for) there is a very real chance that we could have kids in 3 different places and picking them all up before 6 every day would be impossible.
