I have a bunch from the Target sale this summer and was thinking of including it with a B'day gift for DD's classmate who is turning 6. I'll probably buy some sort of craft kit to go along with it so the MLP is not the main gift.

But is 6 too "old" to be getting a MLP?

my 7.5 year old still likes My Little Pony. Especially since they have their own show on the Hasbro channel, Hub. (which used to be Discovery Kids channel)

I don't think that 6 is too old. My 9 year old still likes them. ;)

Not too old at all. My soon-to-be six year old has them and enjoys them. She has asked for more for Christmas.

Not too old, but I'd check first to see if she has any, I think kids either start playing with the around age 3/4 like my DD did and continue, but not all 6 year olds would welcome them as "new toy" KWIM.

Dd1 is 7 and she doesn't play with the ponies anymore. She loves MLP sticker book she has though!
