a soft, small spout and a free (or easy) flow of liquid that doesn't leak.

Tommee Tippie has one, I'm looking for others. (We're in the "try-every-sippy-to-find-one-DD-likes stage).

Not valve-less but have you tried the Nuby flip n sip straw cup with handles?

I just bought this for DD2 (10mos) this weekend and after gnawing on the straw for a few minutes she figured it out. I took a few sips out of it which would leave a bit of water at the top of the straw and then give it to her. She'd then bite on it and realize there was water there. After 2-3 times of that she realized how to suck to get more of the water. I only bought one because I figured I'd be doing the "try every sippy game" too (did it with DD1 and have a box of unused sippy's!) and now I have to buy another because her face actually lights up when I get it out of the cupboard.

We're trying the Plaxtex straw cup next because you can squeeze the sides to give the kid a "taste" of what's inside. If that doesn't work I'll try the Nuby.

I can't figure out if DD doesn't "get" the idea of a sippy, or if she simply doesn't like them, or if the sippy issue has to do with her oral motor issues. She loves to drink out of an open cup, which is great, but I have to be there standing right next to her, holding the cup.

ETA: I've been trying to find a link of the cup I bought, but apparently it is so new, it's not on any website yet!

So far so good.

That's neat. I have the full size version of those for DD1 and like them.

For both my girls there was definitely a learning curve of figuring out how to pucker their lips around the straw and suck. I did spend some time using just a straw and closing my finger on one end to hold in liquid and then releasing it in their mouths.

This is what we use (except with the silicone valve). Ds never liked the sippy cup, but I use the spout with his nuk bottles because he would collapse all the nipples we tried...so he's been using the soft spout since he was 7-8 months old. It doesn't have a removeable valve, but it would take little effort to get something out of it.

For "sippy cups" we use a munchkin straw sippy. Ds figured it out pretty fast.
