I am due with my first in January and my mother lives out of state. I have a feeling there will be many trips down to Florida for visits as this is the first grandchild and I am an only child. I would like to buy a covertible car seat to keep at my mother's. I would prefer not to spend a ton of money and have a seat that will last a while...and of course a seat that is safe. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I think a MyRide 65 would work well, from an infant to a 4-5+ yr old, depending on their height. They are not very expensive compared to Britaxes or other brands, about $120, and they have good safety ratings. This is a thread that shows it works well w/an infant: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=85590

A True Fit Premier wouldn't be a bad choice either. You can usually get one for around $160 to $180. It is a very tall seat so you can use it for a long time.

Since you aren't even due until January, I would just plan to take the infant seat with you until she outgrows it. Nothing beats the travel convenience of an infant seat and if you are able to get a seat for her, you can use it on the plane. Once she outgrows that, you can get a convertible. Who knows what will be out by then and you will get one with a newer date of manufacture. If you aren't getting an infant seat, then there are good seats in many ranges ($40-200) that would work, so the suggestions would depend on your budget as well as considering what you are used to using at home.
