I've been seeing 3-wheeled scooter options that look more "big kid" ish:

ds1 has been begging for a scooter but all I see in my head is him sailing off a 2-wheeled one and cracking his noggin. Can a 3-wheel option be "cool" for older kids?

Well, ds got teased for his scooter, which was two fat wheels, at age 6. For his 7th birthday we got him the fancy razor scooter. So, I would think that a three wheel scooter is not going to be cool past age 3 or so. . . .

I don't know (my kids are younger), but it might depend on the scooter too. Kickboard USA has scooters for teens that have 3 wheels. DS1 has the mini kick (with 3 wheels) and is getting the maxi kick (also 3 wheels) for his 4th birthday (since it is green and ds2 is already wanting the mini kick). The mini kick is really fast and easy to ride (he rode it 4+ miles on Sunday w/out complaining).
