I got a HD Flip Video Camera from Amazon and really like it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some cameras, but it is compact and very easy to use. Here's a link to the newest model: http://www.amazon.com/Flip-UltraHD-Video-Camera-Generation/dp/B0040702HA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1290101165&sr=8-2. I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Flip-UltraHD-Video-Camera-Generation/dp/B0023B14TK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1290101165&sr=8-1. Also, both models are under $200.

I should add that I use a macbook to download video, edit, etc. and it works great.

We are happy with our Kodak PlaySport.

I looked at videos on youtube before I bought it and preferred the PlaySport videos to those shot with the Flip. Example:

I second the flip recommendation. We have one and love it. So easy to use and it gets the job done.

I am in the minority - I don't love the picture quality on flip. But I am thinking of getting one because of the ease of downloading.

We went with the sony DCR SX44 and I really like it - great picture, very steady, very nice. HOWEVER, it is NOT MAC COMPATIBLE! They told us it was when we bought, and I didn't even look at the donwload instructions until after I'd shot a memory card worth of stuff. So now I'm just buying those memory cards until I figure a solution.

We've gotten some recs for the kodak zi8 and are looking for a deal in the next few weeks. It is expandable (memory-wise) whereas the flip is not.

I just ordered a Panasonic one from their friends & family sale. Model # HDC-TM55K. It got really great reviews, but I'm still waiting on it to arrive. The price was $300. Look on slickdeals for more info on how to get on the F&F sale (there is a password, etc)
