I need to find an add-on gift for a 9yo boy (family friend). His birthday is in early December and we are giving him the Razor scooter (from the Amazon deal) for that. For Christmas, I got him the Garnet Hill backpack with his initials on it. I would like to get him one other thing - any recommendations? He is into 'inventing' so something along those lines would be great. Otherwise, perhaps a book (set)? I have no idea what boys that age are into so any help would be great. And ideally, it would cost me about $20. TIA!

Snap Circuits. The smaller sets can be had for $20-25 on amazon.

It sounds like he likes creating things. Knex and Lego would fall into your price range easily.
