Bumper for older baby

DS2 is 10 mo and tosses and turns so much he keeps banging into the sides of the crib and waking himself up. DS never did this so we don't have a bumper (took the current advice to go without for SIDS/safety concerns).

Anyway, since I've never owned one I'm reluctant to buy one now, but I need some solution to help him through this hopefully short phase. Thoughts from others (bumper users or not)?

Some kids use the bumper as a tool to help them climb out but if you DS isn't a climber I'd try it. DD is a climber so we use a breathable bumper - its lightly padded but does the trick for her.
