Due to an unfortunate accident last year (DD2 pulling stocking, mantle decor and therefor 2 holders off the mantle) we need new stocking holders.

The ones we had looked like little topiary trees in pots. I got them from Ballad Designs on clearance a few years ago.

Show me what you have/what you like! I haven't been loving anything I've seen.

Do you have to have the kind that sit on the mantle or can you use a 3M hook?

Please excuse my typos I am typing on my phone!

We use 3M hooks to hang our stocking. These type ones are supposed to be pretty safe. I don't know what brand is best. But, I have head some stories of kids getting hurt by falling stocking holders. So, we avoid those heavy metals ones.

I use a push pin into my wood mantle.. Tiny and doesn't really show up. I do not feel comfortable with stocking holders of any style (well, I guess if they were made out of something as light as paper or something :).

We have permanent holes underneath our mantle where I screw in little brass hooks for our stockings each year. You don't even know they are there.

Those of you who use the 3M hooks, are there specific stocking ones? Or do any of them work. I could not apply to the front of the mantle, only the top, if that makes sense.

I would think you could actually use it on the top, you would just have to put it flat on the mantle with the bottom of the hook at the very edge of the mantle.

You want to get the ones rated for higher weights like this one (http://www.command.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/NACommand/Command/Products/Product-Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U523080QE0IIHEICN90GC1_nid=B74QQX2KBJgsK VFXBMTRZQglFNRXHTVRS2bl) that holds 5 pounds. Or this one (http://www.command.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/NACommand/Command/Products/Product-Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U523080QE0IIHEICN90GC1_nid=B74QQX2KBJgsK VFXBMTRZQglFNRXHTVRS2bl) that holds 7 1/2 pounds but you might have to hide it in the mantle decoration if you have garland or something since it is just white plastic. There are different metal finishes also.

We use these wooden ones because DS pulled the brass one down on his head when he was about 2 yo. :( We love these because they are easy to use and put away and don't really stand out, just kind of blend in.

Another vote for 3M hooks.

We have heavy stocking holders from Land's End. However, last yr and probably this yr, we hang the stocking from bookcases in the LR- not on the mantle, as we don't want DD to pull them down on her!

I've had the wooden hooks for years.

They are very light weight. I bought them because we had a curved mantel edge and couldn't find any kind of hanger that would wrap around the curved edge.
