This is what I have been talking about all this time. Undiagnosed for over 25 years. Look at her before picture. She doesn't look completely awful but she doesn't look so great either.

Please study up on thyroid disease, for you, for your mom, your sister, your BFF. For the men too, because I think they are even more likely to go undiagnosed.

Thyroid disease is different in everyone because everyone starts with a different body. And symptoms are hard to see because they often come on gradually and can be considered positive (weight loss).

After you educate yourself about how to ID thyroid disease, realize that a lot of people still don't feel well even with treatment because doctors in the US are generally poorly trained in this area.

Mary Shomon's website is a good starting point IMO:

http://thyroid.about.com/

She has got the basics there for checking symptoms, understanding tests (which may not always show a problem), and getting treatment that makes you feel better.

If you take nothing else away from this thread: if you suspect thyroid disease, ask for more than just a TSH test, ask for your actual test results (even if they are normal), and research them yourself. If you are feeling fine, you should still be tested so you can see what levels are good for you.
