As a family, we go to the movies every year on Christmas Eve. (2 adults, 2 kids)

We need recommendations for a kid-friendly movie to see.

Thanks!!

Have you seen Tangled, Corie? I can't remember if you posted in the Tangled thread, but we loved it, DH included.

We haven't seen it yet and my DD does want to see it! Great suggestion!

Thanks!!

I think your son will enjoy it, too. There's enough adventure that it's a good story for everyone, not just the princess movie fans. :)

My sister took DDs (8 & 6) to see Tangled last week for the 6yo's birthday and they all loved it. My sister said DD2 was belly laughing the whole time and DDs haven't stopped talking about it since.

The new Narnia movie, "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" will be out. If you haven't seen the first two you could watch them on DVD then see the 3rd. (Big Narnia fan since a kid, I'm waiting for them!)

What about "Gulliver's Travels" with Jack Black? It's rated PG.
Coming out Dec. 22nd.

Or "Yogi Bear"? It's an animated movie. Coming out Dec. 17th.

new Narnia movie, Tangled, Megamind (but not sure if it will still be in theaters in 3 weeks or not?) or Yogi Bear?

Corie - we are stealing your idea and starting our new tradition this year! DS #2 is young - but will sit through a movie at home (with some toys around) Hopefully he will be ok with not too many people in the theater!

Megamind was good, kids loved it. I'd pick Yogi. Saw the trailer and it looked very cute.

Don't some theaters show Polar Express in IMAX/3D every year? I think that is a tradition for my cousin's kids.

I'm rehashing the recommendations of others, but I second the votes for Tangled, Megamind or Gulliver's Travels. We loved Tangled. I liked it more than Megamind, but I did like both and thought both were good movies. Gulliver's Travels looks like a fun one, and I hope the reviews will be good.

We're planning to see Tangled or yogi Bear around the same time!

You could do the Narnia install -- watch the (2?) prior ones and get the CS Lewis guide to the bible book. There are all sorts of religious overtones to the Narnia series. Very interesting.

Or just go light and to to Tangled.

I vote for Tangled. Also preferred it over Megamind (which was also good). And personally, I'd rather see Tangled again than watch Yogi, but that's just me. DS is 8 and he even liked Tangled.

Gulliver's Travels is another option, but only if you don't have preschoolers/younger kids, IMO.

I would suggest either Tangled or Mega Mind. My kids loved both movies.

I really enjoyed Tangled so I would rec that. Megamind was ok. I think your kids are old enough for Gulliver's Travels but Tangled or Narnia seem more holiday-like for some reason.

I'll be curious what age people think Dawn Treader is appropriate for. I've read it with DS1, but didn't think either of the first 2 Narnia movies would be appropriate for him (too scary/violent) even though we had read the books. There is less violence in the Dawn Treader book, but a few parts that could be pretty scary on film.

I LOVED Tangled. Really cute movie! My son was laughing hysterically. Definitely a movie enjoyable by boys and girls.

I'll be curious what age people think Dawn Treader is appropriate for.

My older DD is pretty sensitive and she only recently watched the first two. She had tried, and really WANTED, to watch the first movie mnay times, but it got too intense for her. And that was at home, not on the big screen. I would say ages 8+.

My younger DD does not like these movies at all and the trailers for Dawn Treader in the theater scared the carp out of her!

My kids saw Tangled yesterday. Older DD loved it. My younger DD actually was kind of upset by the ending. Overall, she liked the movie though.

I recommend The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Threader, its brilliant, for the whole family with lots of lesson to learn.

I thought the first two Narnia movies were a bit on the boring side so I'd go with Tangled or Megamind instead.
