I would post this in the "Healthy You" section but I'm looking for a quick response...

I've had a recurring yeast infection for weeks now and after 2 doses of terazol cream and diflucan it's still driving me crazy. I'm at my wits end now, barely able to function due to the discomfort, so I'm taking matters into my own hands and trying various natural remedies. (And yes, my doc confirmed it was yeast and nothing else).

So for those of you who have used plain yogurt to treat your yeast infection... How do I insert a tampon dipped in yogurt??? If I remove it from the cardboard thingy and dip it, it expands and I can't figure out how to insert it. But if I leave the cardboard applicator on and then dip it in yogurt and insert it, it doesn't seem like any yogurt is really getting up in there! Please help me! I can't take the itching and burning anymore! P.S. - so sorry for the tmi!

you can also get a syringe and insert the yogurt that way.

How did you treat with Diflucan? I never get full relief with one pill. I usually take one and then a 2nd pill 72 hrs later.

Are you taking oral probiotics? I really like the Femdophilus from Jarrow brand... specifically formulated for female issues. http://www.jarrow.com/product.php?prodid=391

I have also taken grapefruit seed extract for yeast. You put drops into a little orange juice (it is super strong straight.... tastes like you are biting into a grapefruit rind) and drink it down. I've read that some people actually douche with a diluted solution with GSE but I have never tried that. http://www.pureliquidgold.com/

Yes, the syringe makes more sense! Thank you! Ive been taking a probiotic, not sure which brand, but I'm going to check out the brand you recommended as I'm prone to yeast. I've been taking GSE pills as well and earlier today I did a sitz bath with some drops of the liquid GSE. I've never douched before so I'm not sure how to do it really but I'm willing to try the GSE solution at this point. The doc that's treating me is very conservative and doesn't like to prescribe diflucan, which I guess makes sense, but when you need it, you NEED it! I'm gonna call again on Monday and see if he'll prescribe me another dose since I only took the one pill.

BTW, how frequently do you use the yogurt?

Thanks girls for your advice!!

Oh, I can sympathize with you! I just finally got a bad yeast infection under control. Mine went on for a couple of weeks. I thought I might go insane.

Anyway, this is not a natural remedy as you asked for, but what worked for me is a steroid cream. The name on the tube is Nystatin and Triamcinolone Acetonide. Within hours of starting it, I had relief!! My dr told me to use it 3x a day for 2 weeks (and do not stop sooner, because the infection could resurface). It has been 5 days now, and I feel great.

FYI - I'd done a monistat one day and took 2 doses of Diflucan, and neither treatment could touch this thing. The steroid cream has been wonderful.

Good luck, and I hope you get it resolved soon!

this is my favorite yeast infection page https://www.msu.edu/~eisthen/yeast/diy.html

that said, for a yeast infection, I cut out all refined sugars, and douche w/a mix of h202, tea tree oil and gentian violet. the GV can be hard to find but I keep it on hand to clean the dog's ears so I always have it.

I've also coated a tampon in olive oil and applied gv to the tampon. to use the yogurt mix, you need a plastic applicator.

feel better

Remember that recurring yeast infections might not be yeast. It could be bacterial vaginosis. Have you had it diagnosed as yeast? I know this sounds bizarre--anybody who has had a yeast infection KNOWS what it feels like. But recurring ones can be something else or a symptom of a larger problem.

I have always heard that you can take acidophillus capsules, break them apart, mix them with yougurt and then suck that up into an applicator (like you get with Monistat creme). And use that.

I have used garlic cloves for mild infections. Seriously. You take a clove, peel it, cut a couple of slits in it, and insert at bed time. It pretty much falls out when you stand up so don't try during the day! If I do this for 3-4 days it takes care of it.

For the major ones, I am all over Diflucan!!

Is it wrong to say I am totally fascinated by these methods?! I would never think to do these, but very interesting to keep in the back of my mind for next time...
