Or other options for hanging stockings on a beveled mantle without putting in nails or screws? I think I've seen those cantilevered stocking hooks before, but can't figure out an easy place to get them!

Our mantle won't accomodate regular heavy stocking holders because of the deep bevel. And I've read enough horror stories here about kids pulling down their stockings AND those heavy stocking holders and clocking themselves in the head...

We actually screw little brass hooks (which you can get at any hardware store) under the wood mantle. The holes are never seen and just stay there all year. Then at the holidays I just screw in the hooks and hang the stockings. It's inexpensive, safe for the kids, and doesn't interfere with the mantle decorations on top.

I just called Bed, Bath, and Beyond today and they have these: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=14646582

I've heard wonderful reviews for them and there are a bunch in stock at my store. It's worth a try if you have a BBB in the area. I'll be picking some up this week.

That's what we have. They actually stay in all year long. You can't really see them at all.

Target has something similar.

I posted this same question a week or two ago. Since a few people recommended it, I'm using the Command hooks this year. They are covered up by our mantle decor. Working out perfectly so far! I'm not worried about when they are loaded up, since DH's fam always sends lots of stocking gifts and we end up just laying everything in front of the fireplace.

Those BB&B hooks look pretty interesting though. I may have to look around for those!

We have something similar to the wooden sock hook that someone posted, ours are a green resin/plastic that has a rubberized back, sounds tacky but is quite nice and works great.

That's what we have. They kinda blend in with the boughs I have on the mantle. I got them at Ace hardware store for like $4 for 4 (its been a couple years so I don't totally remember)

We use the wood Sock Hooks too. Another source: http://www.improvementscatalog.com/product/sock-hook-stocking-hanger.do Improvements used to offer better pricing if you were buying several, but apparently they don't do it anymore. You might try ebay as well--I needed more hooks and found them there cheaper (both in price and shipping) last month. They have candy cane ones now too, but I haven't seen them anywhere but Improvements yet.

We tried the ones from Bed, Bath & Beyond, but they didn't work with our mantle shape.

I have had the wooden sock hooks linked at improvements and someplace else here. I either got mine from improvements or solutions:

I've had mine at least 8 years and love them.
