We are still discovering Legos and enjoying the advent cal immensely. Wondering if anyone has a child that loves a particular set appropriate for this age. Many thanks!

My almost 7 year old is about a year into Lego craziness. My personal favorites are the City series. He has a construction set and a garage. Fun because they can role play with the vehicles and pieces in addition to just building them.

City and Creator stuff is popular here. Target has the City Airplane for $27 this week (normally $40). T's all time favorite set is the Coast Guard stuff or one of the house sets.

*I* really like the Creator sets that can be built three different ways... feel like I'm getting more for my money, I guess.

The Creator set cars. You will definitely be helping on these, though, from what you've told me. This one has been very well loved at our house http://creator.lego.com/en-us/products/default.aspx#4993

The bulk bricks have always offered the most creativity at our house. We have a few specialized, small sets and a bunch of generic bricks. The possibilities are endless!

I got DS (will be 6 right after Christmas) the 405 piece box set and am planing to get a brickmaster set as well. Also a few small 3.99 sets in his stocking.

DS is 6.5 and likes the City line, especially the trains. He is just getting interested in Space Police, too.

I think it depends on what they are into. We started with general ones and then went with character ones that he loved reading about (Indy Jones, knights, harry potter), etc. and star wars.

My 9 yr old has had spongebob sets and star wars... aqua raiders (discontinued), space police etc.. He loves them all.

I don't know if you are a costco member but they had (may still have) the Brickmasters sets for a great price. I bought one of each theme, there are 4 available (pirates, castle, star wars and Atlantis). They get a book and bricks to build something like 14 different models.

Both boys (7.5 and 4.5) like the City sets. Ds1 also really likes Space Police, Atlantis, Prince of Persia and Harry Potter.

My 6 year old really loved the City stuff for a while but he's really into the Kingdoms stuff right now. He'll build and play with whatever is given to him though. When we get the catalog he marks up the whole book for his wish list.

My DS is the same way. He loves the city stuff the most and when he has a set he always looks at the picture in the back of the booklet and tells me he wants every set shown with the set he has.
