Specifically, is there a way to clean the rubber ring around the opening? Bleach, vinegar?

TIA!

I use an Affresh tablet once a month... and just clean the rubber ring w/ a towel when there's water in there......

I swipe inside the rubber ring as best as I can with a little bleach on a damp towel.

Run a wash cycle with bleach.

i always wipe the rubber ring and the inside of the ring with a rag. leave the door open for a little bit to air dry thoroughly. every month or so, i run the whites cycle empty (hot/hot, extra rinse) with bleach. this was instructed by the repair guy who replaced the rubber "boot" in my washer.

Look in your manual (paper one or online). Ours stank so we printed up the pages from whirlpool.com and taped them inside the cabinet above the washer. DH put it on his Remember the Milk to do list. There is a certain set of steps= press this, hold it, then add bleach , then something else...

I leave the door open (not wide, just not shut) all the time and every month or so run an empty hot/hot cycle with vinegar.
