i'm making cookies tonight for a holiday party tomorrow

the recipe calls for 1/2 cup "tub-style vegetable oil spread," + 1/4 cup butter

i am not so into veg oil spread. i actually don't even know what that is. and i don't think i want to

so...can i just do all butter? if so, would it be a straight substitution? meaning i would use a total of 3/4 cup butter?

thanks!

I think it would be fine, but may effect the texture a bit. Crisco would probably correspond better as a substitute. But with ds' dairy allergy I substitute vegetable oil based margarine for butter all the time and stuff turns out fine. (And before ds' dairy allergy I did the reverse and used all real butter in place of shortening routinely and stuff all came out fine.)

ETA. I've always done a straight substitution. So 1 cup for 1 cup.

I sub. butter all the time. I imagine I am altering the texture with that switch but the things always still taste good and cook up fine.
