DD LOVES Sophie and if given a handful of other toys and Sophie, she'll pick the giraffe...

What other toys out there engage a baby's interest like this silly giraffe? She just LOVES it!

We also have that FP sorter and I bought DD2 the birdhouse for Christmas. My 7 month old also loves her Haba wooden teethers which are also cool toys - we have the Lara ring and the Miro which has a lovely sound to it and rolls. We got the Green Toys stacking cups which are great for bath and playtime. Hand me downs from DD1 that I remember her loving at that age, and that DD2 also likes: stacking rings (don't get wood - we almost had a kid injured on the M&D wooden stacker), medium sized rubber balls (they love this), musical instruments, and things that go. The Inchworm toy that you can press to make go, baby safe cars and trains, all big hits. We never had a walker type toy as I was always too nervous about accidents, but that Haba wagon is tempting!

How was someone almost injured on a wooden stacker? We have the Ikea one (and had a plastic one for ds) and I can't picture it. Thanks!

I haven't seen the IKEA one. We had the M&D wooden stacker. Once the baby removes the rings, there's this vertical wooden pole - straight, not broader at the base and narrower at the top - an accident waiting to happen (eyes, mouth in particular). A baby at a playdate at our place almost injured himself on it - fortunately I never let DD play with it unsupervised. We bought DD a really nice Ravensburger plastic one with the broader base, narrower at the top, with a soft toy covering the top. DD2 now plays with it and likes it a lot.

Thanks for the explanation. The ikea one does not have a wood center, although it is straight. It is something a little bit flexible, not sure what actually.

Ouch, that sounds dangerous! We have the FP plastic ring stacker, that gets played with too and the top piece is a rattle.

As you can see, we have way too many toys! But they are mostly "good" toys that even DD is still playing with, so I am having a really hard time culling them! Arrggh! Our house feels like a giant toy store!

DD is 8 months old and currently she loves:

Stacking cups
Sophie the Giraffe
Taggie Blanket
Activity Table (anything she can stand at really)
Bead Maze

and of course our drink coasters are her favorite.
