Mortar and Pestle

I've always wanted a mortar and pestle. My Mom finally gave me a cute little one as a gift, and it looks adorable sitting on my kitchen counter. But I've had it for almost a month, and haven't used it once yet. What am I supposed to do with it? TIA for any ideas.

We've needed one to break up pills for babies a few times.

I use mine everyday to crush up spices. Cardamom, cloves, whole peppers...

I agree with the crushing spices, it's brings out the flavors even more. Crushing garlic will also ensure that nobody gets giant pieces of garlic in their meal.
