We need to make a cake for Christmas and I am completely uninspired. What are you making?

I am not making a cake but what about a holiday tres leches cake? Or an apple cake (yum)?

OK, if you clicked on that hopefully you got the joke. :icon_twisted:

I second a PP's idea of apple cake. My mom made an awseome one when we were visiting for Thanksgiving. It had a brown butter icing and it was fab. I think the recipe was from a recent Good Housekeeping and I need to get it from her!

Depending on your spiritual leanings and celebration, "Happy Birthday Jesus" traditional birthday cakes are really popular around here. And, yes, the kids sing the song.

Holiday Tres Leches all the way.

Last year I made that and a chocolate snowball cake. The snowball cake came out SO cute, and it was good - but the Tres Leches blew it away!

Ok, so does anyone have a good holiday tres leches cake recipe to share? I love tres leches!

I use this one. It's not really Tres Leches, since it only has Eggnog!!! :) But it is DELISH!

ETA: Here's the snowball cake recipe too. It really is so cute!! Just no competition for Tres. http://www.kraftrecipes.com/cooking-tips/step-by-step/dessert/snowballcake.aspx

We do a buche de Noel. It is not Christmas without it here. The recipe is similar to the one my dad does:

We don't do the mushrooms, just puffs of meringue. We use cranberries and other things as garnish.
