I bought 2 of these-- one for DS1 and one to hold onto for my friend's DD's birthday next August. The power button is accessible from the outside of the package with a "Try Me" sign telling you to try it out. When you press it it plays a little video explaining all the details of the video camera. On the first camera I got it works fine-- powers up the camera and plays the video-- when I press the button. On the 2nd camera, however, pressing the button does nothing at all. I'm not sure if I got a lemon or if the included cheapo batteries are just dead. I'd rather not take my chances though on it just being the batteries that are dead since it's for a gift and I can't open it up. I tried calling the VTech customer service # but they are closed for the day. Off to email them and Amazon too.
So check your cameras everyone!
ETA: I ended up emailing Vtech and then did a live chat with Amazon as well. Amazon is sending me out another camera that will arrive on the 24th. I'll need to send the defective one back.
