In my continued quest to upgrade my wardrobe, I am curious about this. I wound up ordering another pair of boots that I'm waiting on delivery. but now I'm having regrets though. They're slouchy knee high boots, with a flatter sole. I'm just concerned that next year they will be dated, which I'm trying to avoid! But I wanted something comfy for casual wear, running errands, etc. They were only $50 bucks the 9 West Outlet, and I see so many people wearing them, and they look cute, but I'm wondering if I should splurge for a higher quality, more classic style. I will add they're not true leather.

Thoughts? I could not find an exact picture, but they are similar to these, but in an espresso brown and the psuedo-leather:

Any recs or pics of other options (if you don't like them), would be appreciated!

These look fairly classic and should meet your needs just fine. You could also look for a pair of riding boots, if you want flat and more classic. There is a whole category devoted to them on Zappos. They are also known as equestrian boots. Like these Frye boots (http://www.zappos.com/frye-dorado-inside-zip-black-full-grain?zlfid=111). I am sure you can find similar style boots for much, much cheaper than that.

I would buy leather boots if you want a classic style that will also last a long time. It makes sense to invest in basics, and buy cheaper stuff in fun, trndy styles.

I don't have these, but there was a whole thread on these (http://www.target.com/Merona-Kamischel-Suede-Lug-Boots/dp/B002BZZ16U/ref=sc_qi_detailbutton) Target boots. They are cheaper, real leather (suede), and I think a more classic look. People here seem to love them. They come in other colors, but the gray is nice, a little unusual than black or brown, but still wearable.

This exactly. I had a pair of high quality flat leather riding boots that lasted almost 10 years and I got questions and compliments on them till the day they died!

I think you can't go wrong with good quality classics. They stand the test of time.

I really like Frye boots. They are really pricey and a good investment, though I heard they stopped making some of them in the US. For that price, I would not be happy about that.

I am going to check them out, as well as the whole category of riding boots. :)

I want to get a pair of tall boots, too, and I think I'm going to go for the classic riding boot style. Seems versatile--can be dressed up or worn casually.

OMG! I have fallen off the deep end, lol. I wound up ordering a bunch of boots from Target, that were leather or suede, that were knock offs of the Frye boots. I ordered the above mentioned ones in black and brown, as well as a few other styles. My DH is going to commit me to the nuthouse when he sees all of these boxes of boots coming in the mail, as I wasn't sure of the sizing, so I ordered a 9, 9.5, and 10 of each.

I figured what the heck....the stores have nothing left in the styles and sizes I wanted, shipping is free, and I can return them to the store with no hassle. In a few years once the baby is in school and I'm working more I can afford real Frye boots, but for now, I will try the knockoffs!

How fun it is to shop online for boots after the holidays....fa la la la la, la la la la......:)
