Attention photographers- Canon EF 50mm f1.8 or 1.4

Which should I get? I am willing to spend more for the better lens. But, in your opinion, how much better is the f1.4? 200 dollars better? (FWIW, I am buying the lens to take mostly indoor photos of my toddlers...) Thanks!!!

Yes, it is worth $200 more! I love the 50 1.4. We started out with the 1.8 and soon figured out we wanted a better lens. I use the 1.4 a LOT. Better auto-focus (doesn't "hunt" for the focus point like the 1.8 does), better bokeh (the out-of-focus points in the picture), lets more light in, etc.

I think 30 or 35mm is a better focal length than 50mm for shooting indoors. I don't know anything about Sigma lenses though (I only shoot Nikon).

Totally agree that 35mm is better than 50mm for indoor shooting.

Totally agree that 1.4 is worth an extra $200 if you can afford it - specifically b/c of what you are intending to use it for.

I have a couple of Sigma lenses and have had no issues with them (for my old Minolta and now for my Sony's).

I just got the sigma 30mm and love it. I also own the nifty fifty but the 30mm is definitely better indoors in a crop sensor.
