He's too big for a sippy, but he spills a regular cups frequently. I don't let him take regular cups anywhere around the house because he will spill. The sippy's only have 3 holes and he needs something with more flow.

Can anyone recommend anything for me? I'm ok with plastic as long as it's a safe one/BPA free. What I think would be good would be something like the lids on a commuter cup -which has the lid with a smaller opening, but I need one that holds a smaller amount of liquid. It does not have to be insulated, this is just for around the house. I'd like for it to be dishwasher safe if possible.

thanks!

I have going-on-3yo twins who still use sippies - so don't take this as a "you're doing it wrong" statement. :) I feel like in an ideal world, though, cups should stay at the table. Adults don't walk around with a drink all the time (Unless they're at a party LOL) so why do we feel our kids need to be able to walk around with a cup all the time? (Again - this is in an ideal world - come look around my house and you'll see this is my ideal, not my reality)

Anyway at the table we use real cups and what I find my girls do the best with are the free kiddie cups from Eat n Park. Where in PA are you, do you have eat n park?? Other freebie cups are similar... they're short, don't tip too easy. Olive garden cups are tall, though - avoid. We give them half at a time and they do OK. I think you just need to stick with short and wide - and rather than look for what can be carried and not spilled, work on not carrying anyway. There's no need to walk around with a cup. It's kind of a weird thing we set up in our kids if you think about it. Controlling where they drink might be more effective than controlling how they drink. They do need to master real cups eventually.

For times being out and about with a cup is the course of leastt resistance... we use sippies... but at home we're really trying to work on real cups, at the table.

No worries, I value your opinion :) But we do use a real cups at the dinner table, for all meals. But he plays alot in our basement. I don't allow food or drinks down there because of spills/messes. But I would like him to be able to have something down there for when he gets thirsty. He's the type that can't be bothered to stop playing to eat/drink anything, even if he's thirsty/hungry.

We used cups with resuable straws for a long time. I bought extra straws as they didn't last forever. We always used the Munchkin ones, but Playtex also has some. Or Thermos Funtainers with straws are good. I haven't tried any of these exact ones but here are some examples:

I think my brain is broken, I was thinking PAFirsttimemom started this, hence my eat n park comment. You probably have no idea what I am talking about LOL

OK I just found these, which look perfect (and bonus because of the Cubbies logo) but seriously, $19.99?

We use playtex cups that look like these-

http://www.amazon.com/Playtex-Coolster-Tumbler-Sippy-Girls/dp/B0011E4HBM/ref=sr_1_35?ie=UTF8&qid=1294507108&sr=8-35

I took the valve out because DD can't use it do to cleft palate issues

DD is 3 at the end of this month. She can't do straws- she drinks well with a cup at the table, but if she is drinking in the car or around the house, I give her liquids in these!

We use these:
http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-AutoSeal-Children-Proof-Travel/dp/B0027AL4TC/ref=sr_1_17?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1294511168&sr=1-17

At 3, DS had a little trouble pressing the button, but he got the hang of it. DD(7yo) still uses them! Costco seems to have them periodically for ~20/4 pk.

HTH!

DS is 3 and he still uses sippy cups, but I know what you mean about something with "more flow." We also use the big fat flexible plastic straw sippy cups. A variety of brands make them. DS likes the Elmo, Thomas and Cars ones. Even more flow than that we've been using the First Years Take n Toss straw cups (like here: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2799857). There are a bunch of colors and the straws are hard plastic. We don't just toss but re-use them for many times before tossing. Sometimes if he spills, there's a little that can come out from the top of the straw but are otherwise pretty leakproof. HTH!

We use regular cups at home and Thermos Stainless Steel straw cups in the car/out of the house. I was inspired by their Montessori school to use the open cups only at home and he doesn't spill anymore :) (started using them at 2).

We use either Playtex straw cups or these Tupperware tumblers with lids. The Tupperware ones are really nice and come through the dishwasher well. There is a seal around where the straw goes in to keep it from spilling.

Playtex: http://www.playtexbaby.com/CupsMealtime/Lil-Gripper (something like these straw cups, but we have an older version)

Tupperware: http://www.tupperware.com/coe/app/tup_show_item.show_item_detail?fv_item_category_co de=5000&fv_item_number=P10047588000

At night, we give the kids straw cups to keep next to their beds, since they often reach out without looking and tip the cup over. (Actually, I knock my water glass over at night sometimes too!) We use Take n Toss straw cups, Tupperware like a PP linked to, and Playtex Cupsicles.

My sister works at Starbucks and got them each a smaller Starbucks tumbler w/lid, like what you're looking for I think. They are lightly insulated, and hand wash recommended, but I always wash them in the dishwasher - we don't use them very often though - so they only go through the dishwasher about once a month. This is the style: http://www.starbucksstore.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=188606

Another option is a Klean Kanteen with sport top.

Funtainer with the straw came to mind as did a clean canteen with a sports top. http://www.kleankanteen.com/products/classic/klean-kanteen-12oz-classic.php

DD! will be 5 in April and she still uses Playtex sipsters esp. when she wants to have milk at the couch. I think I will most likely replace them with the Playtex tumblers next though.

we use either the stainless foogo or funtainers (even DS, age 6, still uses one at school for lunch milk) and we use screw top stainless small bottles for outings, though some kids might spill, mine are used to being extra slow and careful with these. I might get a sporttop KK for DD for her bday, or give it as an idea, as she is ALWAYS asking for a drink th eminute that car drives out the garage LOL!!

Not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but I picked up a couple of Coolsters, took the valve out and they are working great! Thanks!
